In grade nine music, students are given the opportunity to learn a new band instrument. This may be a completely new experience for non-musicians or string-players who are unaccustomed to the demands of a wind-based band. They have the opportunity to learn bassoon, oboe, flute, clarinet, the three saxophones, trumpet, baritone, trombone, French horn, or tuba, as well as bass guitar, auxiliary percussion and drum kit.
