What’s the NIS policy/procedure/view on…?

Have you ever wondered about who your budget head was? Or what the Code of Conduct is for visitors to NIS? Trying to figure out if the photo you took of your students building with lego is appropriate to Tweet out? Well, all of these things and more can be found within our O365 Sharepoint server located, living and continuously updated online.  Some further dissemination of these important tidbits of information are outlined below:

  • The Staff Folder is where the majority of policy documents, procedures and forms live

  • Forgotten where to find that Curriculum Mapping Template? Or curious about what ATLs look like in the MYP? Check out the Curriculum Development folder
  • Missed the Monday Morning Briefing? You’re in luck because you will also find a link to the OneNote document on the left-hand side (as seen below) – or click here and bookmark the page!

While you’re visiting, your friendly IT Coaches and Staff remind you to bookmark this page! (That’s the Command + D keys or find it under Bookmarks in the menu). Happy surfing!

GRADE 4 THINKS AND KNOWS

At the beginning of our unit: The Lucky Planet, we use the program ‘Comic Life’ to create an “I think” page for each student. The page had to do with what they thought about the Earth in relation to the solar system (seasons, night & day, gravity). After the unit was nearly finished,we went back into the same document and changed our “I think” to “I learned or I know”. We compared the documents and posted them.

GRADE 3 FORCES ON BICYCLES

Grade 3 classes studied how forces make work easier.

They used the application Pages to recreate accurate graphical drawings of a bicycle. They learned how to draw with shapes and lines, fill with colour, change the thickness of lines, layer images, move images and label with text boxes.

They each designed a bicycle and labeled it with the forces that are used.

GRADE 1 ECOSYSTEM MAPS

In Grade 1 the children used the program Kidspiration to demonstrate the parts of the ecosystem of the rainforest and what animals and plants are in each part. They used arrows to show connections between the different elements.

GRADE 5 FINDS OUT ABOUT THE PAST

Grade 5 learns that there are different ways of finding out about the past. They sample artifacts, primary and secondary sources. This short video shows one student’s exploration into a past event as she recounts the event and uses varied sources of information.

GRADE 5 BUY LOCAL ANIMATION

The Grade 5 Exhibition this centered around the idea that “What we do now affects the future.” One group decided to study the environmental concerns around the topic of food. This clever animation shows the impact of buying produce grown locally compared with produce grown far away. Who needs a lot of words, when pictures show the whole story?

G5 GROUP ROLES

A very important skill for our students to learn is how to work cooperatively within a group. This video shows viewers the different roles that group members can take and how to effectively work with all group members.
