International school counsellors’ newsletter September 2016

Dear counsellor,

Our Northern hemisphere summer is drawing to a close and the UCAS Medicine deadline will soon be upon us.  In this newsletter we’ll be updating you on some important changes to our International Baccalaureate entry requirements for 2017 and 2018 entry as well as to the application procedure for International Medicine BSc/MBBS.  We’d also like to share exciting changes to our Biomedical Science programmes which will offer students a wider choice and a range of specialist awards.

We’ll be travelling the world meeting prospective students prior to the Medicine deadline, so we hope to see many of you over the coming weeks!

New IB entry requirements

We are pleased to announce that we will now be taking into account the points awarded for ToK & EE when selecting for our undergraduate programmes. We appreciate the skills which these points reward and recognise their value in considering applicants.  Please note that for 2018 entry we will require both Chemistry and Biology to Higher Level.

See the updates to our IB requirements for 2017 and 2018 entry.

International Medicine: application changes for 2017

All applications to International Medicine BSc/MBBS, as well as for Medicine MBBS, must now be submitted via UCAS by 15 October 2016 for September 2017 entry. We anticipate that a consistent UKCAT minimum overall cut-off score will be set for both programmes once all applications have been received.

Enhanced Biomedical Science programme at St George’s

An exciting new suite of Biomedical Science undergraduate programmes will be available for September 2017 entry to St George’s. Our popular transfer route into Medicine will remain while students will also have the opportunity to study for a wide range of specialisms, taking advantage of our the world-leading research expertise.

Second international summer school a success

This July we welcomed our second International Summer School cohort, with 40 students from around the world attending for two weeks. Students from last year’s event have seen those their attendance pay off, with a number holding offers to study Medicine at St George’s.

Meet us around the world

We are looking forward to meeting many of you over the coming months. If your students would benefit from more information on UK Medicine, please do get in touch to arrange a visit or online session.

See our visit schedule in September and October

Thank you

Please let us know if you have any questions about St George’s and our programmes by emailing global@sgul.ac.uk.  We are happy to speak with prospective medics, biomedical scientists, physiotherapists and radiographers, and their parents, to advise on getting into UK healthcare degrees.

We look forward to being in touch and wish you a successful start to the academic year.

Warm regards,

The International Team
