The Counselors

The NIS Counseling program is an integral and comprehensive part of Nanjing International School. School counselors provide direct services to students, parents and educational staff to help promote a positive school environment and focus on students’ social, emotional, and academic needs. The NIS school counselors provide individual and group counseling, parent and teacher consultations, guidance lessons, career and college counseling, and school-wide programs that promote a positive student environment.

Kris Gretchen Balance
Caleva Kelly is a Registered Social Worker and a Certified Teacher in the Province of Ontario in Canada. He comes to us with eight years’ experience in education but 15 years working with children and youth in some capacity. He was born in Jamaica in the West Indies and has taught in Toronto, Canada; London UK and Dubai, UAE. Caleva has a Master of Arts from Ryerson University in Canada. Kris Bezzerides is from the United States and has been in education for 16 years, working in the USA, Colombia, UAE, China, and Bangladesh. She has a Masters in School Counseling from University of Massachusetts, Boston, USA. Working in education for the past 19 years has offered Gretchen Galaty a variety of experiences in student educational and social-emotional development. She was born in the United States and as a teenager she lived and attended school in Kuwait.  Some of her teaching experiences have been in the United States, Poland and Bangladesh.  Gretchen has an educational background as a teacher of the speech and hearing needs, a Masters in Special Education and a Masters in School Counseling from Seton Hall University in the USA.
