School Bells

I can hear the bells.

Tracy, are you alright?

Don’t you hear them chime?

I don’t hear anything…

Please submit your bells in studentlargestorage / school bells. When you submit, please put the name of your advisory. We try to alternate between primary, middle, and upper school bells and we need to make sure we don’t miss any. If you have already submitted, please go back and rename them.

If there aren’t enough bells submitted, then the bell selection will be at the mercy of Miss Keus! (evil laugh!)

Drumming Club

Drumming Club starts today at lunch, 12:50 – 13:20, for grades 6 and up, in M251. We will be preparing for two performances – North East Asian Mathematics Competition and Chinese New Year.

School Bells

School Bells:

Bells are chosen by advisory teams and last one week per year. Some bells slots are pre-scheduled (e.g. Chinese New Year, Productions, DP exams, etc.). Emptied slots are filled with an alternating schedule of PS, MS, and US bells. If not enough bells are submitted to fill the schedule, the holes are filled through individual student and staff requests.

MSUS Deadlines: August 30th; PS Deadlines: September 14th

Location: Studentlargestorage / School Bells

  • Bells must be appropriate for all ages, grades, and community members.
  • All music must be known to be clean. This means instrumental clips of known explicit songs will not be accepted.
  • Individuals and advisories may submit as many clips as they like; they will be used to fill holes (e.g. Weeks 3 & 4 currently have no bells! hint hint)
  • You may submit an entire song or a clip less than 17 seconds in length. If you submit an entire song, Miss Keus will choose the best portion to be used.
  • If an advisory submits their song after the deadline given, Miss Keus will do her best to find an available slot, if possible.

Global Content Posters

I made up some Global Context posters for xBlock, in English, Chinese and Korean. If you would like them for your classroom, please go to teacherlargestorage / xBlock / Global Context. They are A3,150DPI, so if they are too big to print, you can resize them using Mail or go to IT for help.

Musical Instruments

School Instruments:

  • please continue to return your school instruments; all instruments must be in by Thursday

Personal Instruments:

  • all personal instruments must be taken home by Thursday afternoon. Any instrument not returned home will be locked in the music storage room cupboards for safe-keeping over the summer.

Thank you.

Upcoming Music Rehearsals:

Middle School Band: Cancelled until August. Great work on your Saturday performance! That’s it for the end of the year.

Advanced Orchestra: Switched to Mondays and Wednesdays. (both!)

Drumming Club: Wednesday, June 13th

Choir: Sunday, June 10th from 15:00 – 17:00.

Rock Bands: Please be ready to show Miss Keus your pieces by Monday, June 11th.

If you have any questions, ask in the WeChat groups.

Drumming Rehearsal

The Chinese Drumming club has a rehearsal today after school. This is mandatory in order to perform in the upcoming concert, so please ensure you attend. Thanks.

Music Recital

On June 3rd, we will be having a tiny music recital in M251. This is not a concert. This is a tiny recital in which you show your parents what you’ve been learning in your private music tuition classes. This is not necessarily for advanced musicians. This is for everybody. If you have only been playing your instrument for 4 weeks but can play a song, then this recital is for you (come make your mama cry with pride!) Also, if you are advanced and you’ve been working on a really hard song and you want to show your hard work, then this recital is for you.

Performers can be any age as long as they are part of the NIS community. This means our performers can be the children of faculty, staff, or parents. In fact, it could be adult performers as well!

For more information, please contact Miss Keus in M252.

Many thanks for all the bells that were submitted this week!  We now have the happy problem of more-bells-than-weeks for the rest of the school year. We still have a few scheduled weeks (e.g. DP exams, Brown, Bratton, Joyce & Norbraten), but will still try to get as many bells in as possible. We will also move some to August of 1819, before the next year’s schedule takes place.

Thanks for the influx of bells – we really appreciate it!

Bells (again)

Many thanks to all the people who submitted bells yesterday morning. Also, thanks to those advisories who said they haven’t heard their bells yet. I’ll double check my schedule, see what happened, and make sure that any missing bells go in before I start plugging the holes.

Bell Submission

You may have noticed that many bells this year have been repeats of submissions from previous years. This week, we have Pokemon Go, which was submitted last year by grade 5. We reuse bells because there aren’t enough bells submitted to fill all the time slots.

For the remainder of the year, we have blocked out slots for DP exams, the PYP production, and the last week of school. Otherwise, all bell slots are empty. If you would like to submit a bell for this year, please email Miss Keus. Otherwise, I’ll start going through submissions from Mr. Mello, Mr. Marsh, Mr. Coad, and Mrs. Moen, whose advisories always do multiple submissions.

Duty Swaps

Today, I’m looking for someone to take the Monday briefing minutes and for another person to cover/swap my EY Lunch 2 duty because I have the jobalike.

Thanks for letting me know

Cultural Convention Closures

Today we welcome 100+ visiting students for NIS’ Cultural Convention. Please note these closures /changes:

  • All MSUS music classes are shifted to D208.
