Hi All,

Every trimester, our school submits an article or art work for the EARCOS TriAnnual Journal. The Spring issue will be coming up soon. If you are interested in submitting an article, they are looking for any in these areas:

Community Service Projects
Campus Development – New building plans, under construction, just completed.
Curriculum Initiatives – New and exciting adoption efforts, and creative teacher ideas.
Green and Sustainable – Related to campus development and/or curriculum.
Student Art –  HS art in Spring issue.
Student Literary Work – Short stories, poetry, scholarly writing.
Service Learning
Action Research

Reading Corner

The submissions are due April 1st. I have the requirements for submitting the articles so please let me know if you are interested in writing for the journal. I am also more than happy to help you with this or read over your article.

 

 

 

 

EARCOS Tri-Annual Journal

Congratulations to Robin Kimes (Grade 6) and Yejin Son (Grade 8) as their artwork was featured in the “Middle School Art Gallery” in the EARCOS Tri-Annual Journal.

Also, congratulations to Joe Barder as his article on “Books All Educators Should Read” was also featured in the journal.

EARCOS Teacher Conference, Connecting Global Minds, will be having its annual conference in March.

In addition to the main conference, Dan Magie will be conducting a pre-conference on Service Learning (IB Category (3) Three workshop) on March 28 (Tuesday) and 29 (Wednesday). If you intend to register for IB workshop only and not attending the EARCOS conference, please let me know as there is a separate registration process.

Invitation

Dear Teachers,

There will be a field-test for the ETC teacher presentation, Hip-hop in the Classroom: Leveraging rhyme-writing for comprehension, on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2016 (1st Lunch- 12:55 in C109). This presentation will be run as a quick interactive workshop.  You will explore the links between rhyme-writing/-reciting and meaning-making in Science, Language Arts (i.e. not just English), Maths, Social Studies and many other subject areas. You will walk away with concrete lesson plans  and tools that will help y trial this in the classroom right away. This session is applicable to all G2-G12 teachers. Please come and support your colleague fulfill his requirements to apply for ETC. (If you can make it, please send me a quick RSVP.)

Just a friendly reminder that the ETC deadline is the end of today (Wednesday, October 26th, 2016).

Also, we are always looking for writers or teachers who would like to share about their learning or teaching by submitting an article for the EARCOS Tri-Annual Journal. The winter issue submissions are due at the end of November. Below is information about what you can submit and some guidelines. If you are interested, please let me know. You can send the submissions to me, and I can proof-read it before submitting to EARCOS.

EARCOS Information

The 2017 EARCOS Teacher Conference (ETC) is on March 30 – April 01, 2017, in KOTA KINABALU, SABAH, MALAYSIA. The strands in this year’s conference are Science, Math, S.T.E. M., Technology, Social Studies/Humanities, Global Issues/Global Citizenship, Middle School, Service Learning, Counseling, and General Education Topics. As a medium school, EARCOS will accept up to 2 workshops from our school. If you are interested in presenting, proposals and all the necessary forms will need to be submitted to me by October 25th. Then, I will arrange for the trial-run and submit all the necessary information to EARCOS by November 7, 2016. Please let me know if you are interested to present at the ETC.

If you are interested in attending the conference, the deadline for registration is January 22, 2017. You will need to fill out our school’s PD forms and go through the PD committee. You can find more information on http://www.earcos.org/etc2017. EARCOS will continue to update the site so please check often.

SENIA Information

The 2016 SENIA Conference hosted by Yokohama International School is on Feb 9-11, 2017.  YIS is now accepting teacher/practitioner presenter proposals. Proposals need to be submitted by October 3rd, 2016 to SENIA. Please note that there is no monetary compensation paid to the chosen teacher presenters by either YIS or SENIA. Please let me know if you are interested in presenting at the SENIA Conference. The school deadline for your proposals is September 23rd. You will need to meet with me and do a trial run before sending the proposals.

TheSENIA Student and Advocacy Awards which are presented during the SENIA 2017 Conference will be open for nominations on September 9, 2016.  Please look on the SENIA website (http://senia.asia/) for more information.

SENIA has partnered with 21 Century Learning. Their annual conference, where one of the themes is ‘Special Learning Needs’ will take place on March 10-11, 2017 Want more information? Go to their website: http://www.21clhk.org/item/senia/

Sri Lanka & Memo Cards

Shemo will be volunteering part of her summer to help support local Sri Lankan kindergarten teachers. This video will give you a good context of who and where she will be this summer. She is collecting donations to help fund resources for the local kindergartens. Donate to help these teachers guide these students to have better livelihoods. In return, you can get hand designed animal zentangle cards. For donations and cards, please contact shemogani@nanjing-school.com.

Approved EARCOS weekend workshops 2016-2017 are now available (Click Here)! It is still a partial list, but you can check out what is offered next year. Keep checking, as they are continuing to update the list.

Also, the next strand for ETC 2017 is Science, Math, Social Studies/Humanities, Global Issues/Citizenship, Middle School, Service Learning, STEM, Technology, and Counseling.
