Getting Started – Staff

The following list are the basics to get to started.
Go through the 16 items to ensure that you have a basic understanding of the institutional knowledge here at NIS.

  1. Logging on to Laptop:
    There is no password on the laptop computer the first time you log in.
    To change the password, go to:
    –> the Apple (in the top left corner)
    –> System Preferences
    –> Users & Groups
    –> Change Password


  2. Connecting to Wifi (on personal devices, like iPhones and iPads as well):
    Teachers use the “Teacher” network, which uses the Hong Kong line.
    In order to login, use your first and last name (with no spaces) and the password that you created through the email that was sent to you.
    This is the same password for: email, Wifi, Veracross, Office 365, the server, and Edublogs.
    NOTE: Parents are able to connect to the free wifi at our school using the “Very Important Parent” network for up to 2 hours.  They will be prompted with a Login to accept the Terms.


  3. Printing:

    Make sure Astrill is turned OFF

    To print from Office products, go to:
    –> “File”
    –> “Page Setup” – Choose Size and Orientation
    –> “File”
    –> “Print” – Send only 1 copy (You can change that at the printer)
    –> Choose “Layout” – (if you would like two-sided)
    –> Press “Print”
    –> Equitrac will open – Key in your “first and last name” (no spaces) along with your “email password”
    Don’t forget to Press “Accept”
    To print from Other programs or the internet, go to:
    –> “File”
    –> “Print” – Print using system dialogue
    –> You may need to press “Show details” (from there, you can choose paper size, orientation, 2-sided, etc.)
    Send only 1 copy
    –> Press “Print”
    –> Equitrac will open – Key in your “first and last name” (no spaces) along with your “email password”
    Don’t forget to Press “Accept”To print Multiple copies:
    Send only 1 copy from the computer (This ensures that it sends faster – Max 50Mbs file)
    –> Bring your card – scan on printer
    –> Choose “Copies”
    –> Press “+1” or “+10” depending upon your needs
    –> Press the little red “x”
    –> Print


  4. Setup email
    Your school email address: User Name@nanjing-school.com
    If you have not changed your email password,  here is your initial email password: #123Acd#
    You can change your email password here: http://newmail.nanjing-school.com
    You can get access your email either from the webmail website:  https://login.microsoftonline.com/ or by connecting your email account with Microsoft Outlook.app.

  5. Servers – Connect
    To connect to Servers, go to Finder:
    –> Go
    –> Connect to Server
    –> Type either:

    1. afp://pypserver.nanjing-school.com
    2. afp://largestorage.nanjing-school.com
    3. afp://fileserver.nanjing-school.com (for Budget, ICT Resources, iLife, Mediacore Video, Public, StudentShare, Teacher Support)
      In order to login, use your first and last name (with no spaces) and the password that you created through the email that was sent to you.
      This is the same password for: email, Wifi, Veracross, Office 365, the server, and Edublogs.


  6. Edublogs
    To see and edit class blogs, go to: http://share.nanjing-school.com
    Look through the MYP and DP dropdowns
    Primary students can also have blogs through Seesaw
    If you need a class blog set up, please contact Tom or Cindy



  7. People to people, Daily, and Weekly Bulletin
    All of these links can be found here:

    People to People – For buying, selling, and advertising events that should not be sent out as ALL STAFF emails
    Daily Bulletin – Links to the bulletin, Forms, Calendars, How to Print from iPads and iPhones, Air Quality information, and more
    To submit to the bulletin, use: bulletin@nanjing-school.com (This can only be done through your school email)
    Weekly Bulletin – Should come to your mail every Friday.

    Submission deadline is Wednesday at 12:00pm

  8. Forms
    To find forms concerning:
    Office requests, Request forms, Yellow Forms, Venue Booking, Absence Notification, Overtime record, Cover needed, PD fund requesst, School bus, Loan, Discipline letter, Meeting Summary, Change of Events, New Event, Student visiting, Guest Visiting, Trip planner, Trip Planner, or Sub form, go here: http://share.nanjing-school.com/dailybulletin/forms/


  9. Calendars
    We use Outlook for Calendars.
    To set this up, go to: http://www.nischina.org/page.cfm?p=562
    –> In order to login, use your first and last name (with no spaces) and the password that you created through the email that was sent to you.
    This is the same password for: email, Wifi, Veracross, Office 365, the server, and Edublogs.
    To add school calendars, go to: http://share.nanjing-school.com/dailybulletin/calendars/
    –> CTRL + Click (on any calendar you would like to add)
    –> CopyGo back to https://outlook.office365.com
    –> Choose Calendar
    –> Add Calendar
    –> From Internet
    –> Paste the link in “Link to the Calendar”
    –> Give it a name
    –> Repeat where necessary (These are Read-Only)PYP grades have many different calendars, and they use Period scheduling, which are half the time of MYP and DP blocks.
    Usful calendars for everyone is the “NIS Days and Weeks Calendar”



  10. Veracross
    This is NIS’ core school management system. For the Teacher Portal, please check Veracross Teacher Portal
    It is used for seeing and managing:

    1. Classes: class schedule, resource library, attendance, assignments/gradebook, reports and communication with students and parents
    2. Student info. and Family details
    3. Your Contact Details
    4. Teams and ASAs
    5. School Reports
    6. Calendars
    7. and many other items  To log on, go to: https://portals.veracross.com/nis
      In order to login, use your first and last name (with no spaces) and the password that you created through the email that was sent to you.
      This is the same password for: email, Wifi, Veracross, Office 365, the server, Print and Edublogs.



  11. Office 365
    You will use this for these and more:
    Online Mail
    Calendar
    OneDrive (Online Documents, like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, etc. – Similar to Google Drive)
    To get a link to Office 365 or Webmail, go here: http://www.nischina.org/page.cfm?p=562
    In order to login, use your first and last name (with no spaces) and the password that you created through the email that was sent to you.
    This is the same password for: email, Wifi, Veracross, Office 365, the server, and Edublogs.


  12. Connecting to LCD projectors
    Use the dongle that should be attached in each room.
    Plug it in.
    To Mirror or UnMirror Displays, you might need to go to:
    –> The Apple in the TOP-LEFT corner
    –> System Preferences
    –> Displays
    –> Arrangment
    –> Check or UnCheck Mirror Display
    (You can also press: CMD + F1)To change the Scale, you might need to go to:
    –> The Apple in the TOP-LEFT corner
    –> System Preferences
    –> Displays
    –> Scaled
    –> Choose 1280×800 (Or play around with it)



  13. SmartBoards
    This downloadable sheet asks users to go through each item in the SMART notebook.
    If there are any questions for how to do things, a user can ask Tom or Cindy for one-on-one PD, or search for it on Youtube.


  14. iPad site (PYP teachers)
    This downloadable item explains how to back up and restore, gives essential agreements, the required apps, research around iPads, and more.


  15. Laptop recommendation site (G5 -G12 teachers)
    These are found on the iPad site.
