MAP Testing – Grade 3-10

Good morning!

If you have been looking at the beautifully designed NIS calendar, you will know that MAP testing starts next week.

What does this mean for you?  Here is a quick Q&A:

Q1. What does MAP stand for?  What kinds of tests are they?

Measures of Academic Progress. You will take a reading test and a maths test.  These are taken on your laptops (trolley laptops for G3-4).  You will take a similar test twice a year so that we can see your progress.

Q2. When do we take the tests?

Your teachers will let you know when you will take the test, normally during language and maths lessons.

Q3. Do I need to study something special for the test?

No need for special studying or cramming – we just want to know how you are doing in Reading and Maths!

Q4. Do I need to bring anything?

No – just yourselves and a positive attitude  🙂

Any other questions – please ask your teachers, Mrs Gijzen, Mrs Clarke, Mr Bratton, Dr Saavedra, or me – Mrs Tyoschin

Have a great Friday!

Speaker Search 2017

Hello There,

Are you a cute little bluetooth speaker that one lived in D208? Did Joe and Kasson loan you out? Do you need to go back to your home in D208 so that children can add the beauty of surround sound to their epic Grade 7 Humanities learning experiences?

If so, could you please ask the anonymous member of staff that borrowed you to return you to Joe or Kasson ASAP. It’s okay if you are not charged, we’ll handle that. It’s the least we can do.

Hold on little buddy; we will find you…

FCD week 7

Dear Staff

FCD will be visiting our school during week 7 (Monday-Wednesday). This affects classes in G6-12. We will also be in the second week of MAP testing during week 7. NIS is a busy school!

Please see the schedule for the FCD visit. Teachers please be aware FCD will come to your classroom for the sessions. Please check the schedule as sessions with big numbers do have other locations. If this is the case, please take your students  there. No teachers are allowed in the FCD/Student sessions. The half block sessions come as feedback from FCD. Let’s see how this works.

Thanks for your flexibility.

C&S/CAS Opportunities Gr 9 – 12

There are still lots of vacancies in the Athletics program for Student Assistant coaches. If you are in Gr 9 – 12 and enjoy a sport, why not use your knowledge to help our younger students and achieve some C&S or CAS outcomes at the same time? Speak to Mr Clarke if you are interested.

Thanks!

A big “THANK YOU!” to everyone involved in covering the 30 of us in the Responsive Classroom session yesterday. It was a great day of professional learning and certainly met our goal of giving us the tools to better support our students and creating commonality within our wonderful K-12 learning community. We are fortunate to work in a place where we step us to support one another in this (and many other) ways. Thanks again!
