RINGMASTER:  “My Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Nanjing International School Circus ….

ALL:                   Welcome to the greatest show on earth,

Welcome everyone,

We’ve got daring men on the flying trapeze,

We’ve got  lions, tigers,

We’ve even got some fleas!

Welcome to the greatest show on earth,

Welcome young and old,

Glad to see you at the circus

We hope you like our show.

Repeat verses 1 & 2

They all exit except for the Ringmaster who stays on the stage.

RINGMASTER:  Now where was I? … Ah yes, ladies and gentlemen, I give you the one and only, Madame Carrie and her Oggie Doggies.

Madame Carrie runs onto stage and takes a bow.  She is wearing a bright and colorful trainer’s costume.  The Ringmaster exits.

CARRIE:              Good evening all.  I am Madame Simone and it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you ….. the eighth wonder of the world …. my

Oggie Doggies!

The Grade 2 dogs rush onto the stage doing gymnastic, to the song ‘who let the dogs out.’

CARRIE:              Alright dogs …. fall in!!!

The dogs shuffle themselves onto the three risers.

Carrie realizes that there is one missing

CARRIE:              Just a minute …. where’s Fido (she looks offstage) Come on Fido …. leave that lamppost alone.  (Fido bounds onto stage)

CARRIE:              That’s better, now into line.

Fido joins the line

CARRIE:              Ladies and gentlemen …….. the Oggie Doggies!  Now, my doggies, are you ready to sing?

DOGS:                  Ruff!!

CARRIE:              Are you sure you are ready to sing?

DOGS:                  (very loud) Ruff!!

CARRIE:              Alright then, sing!

SONG: “It’s A Dogs Life”

The dogs jump up onto the blocks that the lions used and go straight into their song.  It’s a bright bubbly song and because the dogs are sitting on blocks, not much choreography is needed

DOGS:                  It’s a dog’s life,

Learning how to sit and beg.

It’s a dog’s life,

Rolling over and playing dead. It’s a dog’s life doing trick, chasing balls and fetching sticks. It’s a dog’s life,

It’s a dog’s life,

It’s a dog’s life.

Now dogs they like to roam,

Far away from home,

Or chew a juicy bone in ecstasy. And nothing beats a nap,

On the master’s lap,

Or chasing a pussy-cat way up a tree.

It’s a dog’s life,

Learning how to sit and beg.

It’s a dog’s life,

Rolling over and playing dead. It’s a dog’s life doing trick, chasing balls and fetching sticks. It’s a dog’s life,

It’s a dog’s life,

It’s a dog’s life.

Now dogs they like to bark, while playing in a park,

Or howl when it is dark and you’re in bed, But the thing they really like,

Is a postman on his bike,

Isn’t it fun to bite him on the leg!

It’s a dog’s life,

Learning how to sit and beg.

It’s a dog’s life,

Rolling over and playing dead. It’s a dog’s life doing trick, chasing balls and fetching sticks. It’s a dog’s life,

It’s a dog’s life,

It’s a dog’s life.

The song finishes and Madame Simone carries on with the act.

CARRIE:              And now my Oggie Doggies are going to amaze you with their intelligence.

Now, my dogs are going to show you how well they can smell.

All the dogs hold their noses

CARRIE:              I’m going to come down in the audience and pick three objects out. Three everyday objects! Then my dogs will shut their eyes and smell these objects.  My dogs will them take the object back to their rightful owners, just by their sense of smell! Alright dogs shut your eyes.

The dogs shut their eyes tightly and put their paws over them.  Madame Carrie then goes into the audience and asks for three objects.  Things like handbags, cigarette lighters and hankies are good ones to get.  The third object must be a man’s shoe (perhaps even from a teacher) the dogs, of course, had better peek from behind their paws to know who to return them to.

CARRIE:              Alright dogs, you can open your eyes now.  I’ve got the objects.

The dogs open their eyes and jump off their blocks and wait as Carrie returns from the audience with her objects

SIMONE:              Alright, here is the first object!

She holds the first object out and all the dogs smell it.  Fido takes it in her mouth and races off into the audience sniffing around until she finds the rightful owner of the object

CARRIE:              Well done, give Fido a clap!

She gets the audience to give the dog a clap and the dog then returns to the stage

CARRIE:              And now for my next object.

She holds out the other object and again the dogs all smell it. Again, one of the dogs (Aaron) takes it in his mouth and sniffs around the audience until the rightful owner is found

CARRIE:              A big hand for that Oggie-Doggie!

Again, she gets the audience to clap as the dog returns to the stage

CARRIE:              And now finally, for the last object! Are you ready dogs?

DOGS:                  Ruff!!

She holds out the shoe and all the dogs take a big sniff of it and react to the smell by choking, gasping for air and rolling around on the ground

CARRIE:              Silly dogs!!

Carrie takes the shoe back to its rightful owner.  While she is away, the dogs start scratching.  They have been attacked by Professor Zigflea’s fleas. By the time Simone gets back to the stage they are all scratching wildly

CARRIE:              Oggie-Doggies? ….. What’s going on?

They scratch even more

CARRIE:              What’s happening?  (she looks closely and sees the fleas) …… Fleas, my dogs have fleas! Whose horrible fleas are they?

Enter Professor Zigflea and his assistant.  He is very upset

PROFESSOR:      My fleas, how dare they do that to my fleas!

CARRIE:              How dare they do that to my dogs.

They all frantically try to get the fleas off the dogs.  They start to argue, blaming each other, and make so much noise that it brings the Ringmaster out.  The Ringmaster tries to bring on the next act to cover up the fight onstage

RINGMASTER:  Well, thank you Oggie-Doggies.  Now moving right along, our next act is all the way from Paris ….. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you

Madame Marsha and her performing cat!

Madame Marsha enters with her big cat.

FIFI:                      Bonjour! …. I am madame Marsha! …. and this is my cat Mimi!

MIMI:                   Meeeeeeeeeeooooooooowww!

As soon as the cat meeoows the dogs stop scratching and just look at her

CARRIE:            Oh no, …. a cat!

MARSHA:                      Oh no, … a dog!

DOGS:                  Ruff!!!

The dogs attack the frightened cat and start chasing it around stage, with the Professor, his assistant and Madame Marsha and Carrie in hot pursuit. They all chase each other around the stage and then out of the theatre.

Unit 2

Assembly performance music

Allah made us all a different shade and colour.
Nations and tribes recognize one another!
’cause every single person is your sister or brother.
So many different colours of Islam.

Fill the world with colour, paint it everywhere you go.
Paint everything you see, and tell everyone you know.
Qur’an will be your paint, and your brush will be iman,
So fill the world with colour, every colour of Islam.

Truth as clear and blue as the sky we walk under.
Love as bright and loud as the lightening and thunder.
Peace as pure and white as the moon, so full of wonder.
So many different colours of Islam!

Fill the world with colour, paint it everywhere you go.
Paint everything you see, and tell everyone you know.
Qur’an will be your paint, and your brush will be iman,
So fill the world with colour, every colour of Islam.

Smiles, warm and shining, like the sun upon our faces.
Hope as rich and green as the trees of an oasis.
The colours of our faith bloom in so many places.
So many different colours of Islam

Fill the world with colour, paint it everywhere you go.
Paint everything you see, and tell everyone you know.
Qur’an will be your paint, and your brush will be iman,
So fill the world with colour, every colour of Islam.
