Stella’s Song

(Track 2 & 13)

Verse 1 – Grade 1:

Stella the starfish, tell us your story

How did you come here, where are you from?

You look so lonely, where is your family?

You look so sad. Where do you belong?

Stella:

I was up in the bay

Where I often would play.

But a crashing wave hit me

And washed me away.

Verse 2 – Stella:

Then as I tumbled and I couldn’t see and

Bubbles were rushing over my head.

When the wave passed I found myself holding

On to a conch shell on the sea bed.

Grade 1:

So the magical shell

Has come here as well.

Though your story is sad,

We are sure we can help

All: Stella the starfish…

Stella: Please will you help me?

All: Stella the starfish

Stella: Where is my family?

All: Stella the starfish…

Stella: Please will you help me?

Stella: Please will you help me find my family?

Xianming: Of course we will, Stella. But where will we find them?

Stella: In the ocean, of course.

Xiaohong: But which ocean? And how on earth would we get there?

Stella: Oh that’s easy! Haven’t you noticed the magic conch shell at the bottom of the aquarium?

(Stella carefully reaches into the fish tank and pulls out a beautiful conch shell.)

Hold on to the shell and it will take us into the sea.

******************************************************************************************

(Xianming and Xiaohong touch the shell and take a deep breath.

The narrators play suitable sound effects on the percussion instruments such as triangles, suspended cymbals, chimes or glockenspiels.)

******************************************************************************************

(All PK stand and get ready to come on stage).

Narrator 4: Xianming and Xiaohong were quickly transported into the deep blue ocean. They found

themselves swimming towards a beautiful coral reef covered with colorful dancing seaweed.

(Stella, Xianming and Xiaohong sit on a rock and watch the group of seaweed, PK, dancing gracefully, swishing and twisting around the stage.)

MUSIC – Seaweed Dance 1 (tracks 3 & 14)

  1. One PK student from SR and one PK student from SL come on and do a leap facing the audience then find a colored spot on stage and sit down waving arms. As each student sits down then next two come up on to the stage, and so on until all of PK are sat on a spot.
  2. Slowly all students stand and wave arms to the right, then to the left 8 x in total.
  3. Then rotate once, and go down and up.
  4. Then rotate the other way and go down and up.
  5. Finally move around the stage like seaweed they hear the sound of the tambourine being tapped many times exit the stage.

(PK gracefully leave the stage. Stella, Xianming and Xiaohong remain seated on the rock.)

____________________________________________________________________________

Stella: (with great excitement) I’ve found them! I’ve found them! I’ve found my family!

Starfish 1: We’ve been looking for you everywhere!

Starfish 2: We thought we’d lost you forever!

Starfish 3: We’re so glad we’ve found you!

Narrator 6: All the other creatures had felt the ripples of excitement through the water and, in no time at all, had gathered at the shipwreck to celebrate with Stella and her family. Then the seaweed led a special dance.

(The seaweed and all the creatures move swiftly onto the stage, ready to dance.)

MUSIC – Seaweed Dance 2 (tracks 10 & 21)

(As the dance music fades, the seaweed and all the sea creatures gracefully sit down on the stage, leaving Stella, Xianonming and Xiaohong alone in the centre.

Narrator 7: After the celebrations had finished, Stella thanked Xianonming and Xiaohong for all their help and

told them to hold tightly on to the magic conch shell.

Music: Students play suitable sound effects on their instruments, as before.

(Narrator 7 continues…)

Before they knew it, Xianonming and Xiaohong found themselves back home in front of their

aquarium.

(The fish tank is repositioned on stage, just in front of Stella, who now disappears out of sight, leaving the conch shell with Xianonming and Xiaohong.)

Xiaohong: Wow – what an adventure we’ve had!

Xianonming: But where is Stella?

Xiaohong: Let’s look in the aquarium. She might be in there.

(Both look into the fish tank.)

Xianonming: There’s no sign of her – she’s disappeared!

Xiaohong: But look – we’ve still got the magic conch shell. What shall we do with it?

Xianonming: We must look after it forever and ever, just in case Stella needs our help again one day.

(All the characters, including Stella, move onto the stage for the final song, then stand up as the ‘audience music’ is playing.)
