Classical Mechanics and Modern Physics Demo Lesson from The University of Portsmouth

A Master Class to current senior high school students will be presented by the University of Portsmouth. It will review some of the fascinating concepts in classical mechanics and modern physics (astrophysics) which are taught at A level or in high schools. It will illustrate:

– how classical mechanics may be used to solve some problems in medicine, sport and finance

– how the use of artificial intelligence in astrophysics may be transferred to the commercial world

The lecture will thus illustrate the versatility of a science degree with applications beyond the physics discipline. It will show how a science or engineering degree may unlock a variety of rich and varied career pathways, including healthcare, business, finance, sports, journalism, just to name a few.

Date: 23 April 2024

Time: 6:00pm-7pm (China time) 11am-12:00 noon (UK time)

There will be a Question-and-Answer session at the end of the presentation.

Topics: Careers in science and engineering: the wonders of classical and modern physics

Speakers:

Professor Raymond Lee, Professor of Biomechanics and Associate Dean (Global Engagement)

Professor David Bacon, Professor of Physics and Director of the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation

Both Profs Lee and Bacon have excellent track record of transdisciplinary research. They are well-established scientists who have been identified as the top 2% most cited researchers in the world (according to Elsevier Science metrics).
