Primary: Afternoon Session Information

At 2.15 today we will meet in LGR1 for a sharing and reflection session. (Note the time change – this was originally scheduled for 2.30)

Choose Your Focus – Be Ready to Share

G5 and EY please also join us for this session and be ready share what you have been working on over this time.

All teachers will need to come ready to share:

  • Your focus and why you chose it
  • Any key learnings or take-aways
  • The outcome of your chosen focus (what plans have you developed/what changes have you made to your programme)
  • What questions and challenges remain or emerged about your chosen focus over the week.

You may want to bring documents/artifacts, mind maps etc to add to a gallery wall

The sharing format will be an informal mingling (not a stand-up presentation).

PLD Week Reflection

Afterwards we will reflect on these four PL days as a whole.

Thinking about any session or learning from the week, the prompt will be.

I learned……

So now I will……

This is important because…….. (consider making a connection to mission/JEDI)

You do not need to come with this written down – I am posting here for those who prefer more think time.

Happy Thursday!

Don’t Forget – Goals Padlet for Ceci

Ceci wanted to remind everyone to make sure to update the Goals Padlet. She will be dedicating time to provide feedback to everyone next week so make sure you add your goal if you would like some input.

Also she will be updating the Resources Padlet with the Parking lot questions and additional resources that were requested so check in on the Padlet again too.

Secondary Collaborative Planning Time – Today!

Good morning secondary teachers,

Today after the UDL session, there is a block of time set aside for collaborative planning. Please use this time with one or more of your teaching partners to continue the work from the UDL workshop and/or to continue the work from the Translanguaging and Language Goals sessions from the last two days. Look closely at your upcoming lessons for the next week or two and find those small moments in lessons where you can action some of the strategies/learning to increase access to the content understanding or the English language demands of your course.

Have a great Wednesday!
Sara

PLD Tag – Starts Tomorrow!

PLD Tag is BACK!

As part of our Professional Learning Week, we are excited to announce the return of an epic two-day round of PLD Tag! This is a fantastic opportunity to have some fun, engage with and get to know your colleagues, and determine who the best tagger at NIS is!

Please check out the poster info and sign up using the WeChat QR code.

The more people sign up the more fun it will be!

Scan the code below to play:

How to Play:

We will play two games:

  1. Bingo Tag on Thursday: You will receive a bingo card in your email with names to tag. Print or draw up your card on a piece of recycled paper. Once you tag someone, they must sign your card. The first three to return a fully completed card to me will win a prize (thanks Social Committee) and gain an advantage in Game 2.
  2. Elimination Tag on Friday: After Bingo Tag on Thursday, we will transition to a new round of Elimination Tag. You will receive a name to tag via email. Write the full name down on a scrap piece of paper and once you tag that person, they will provide you with the name of the person they were trying to tag. This continues until we have a winner. Please note that once you are tagged, you are out of the game. Ruben Joyner is our current defending champion and one to watch out for!

 Rules of the Game:

  • Tagging Hours: Tagging is permitted anywhere on the school campus from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, except during meetings or workshops, which are designated safe zones. Once players leave a meeting room, it’s on!
  • Tagging Method: Tagging can only occur on the shoulder, and the tagger MUST say “Tag” for it to count. In PE, we have a very special rule that we always trust the tagger. In the unlikely event of two players tagging each other at the same time, the diplomatic strategy of Rock Paper Scissors can be employed to settle the score!
  • Post-Tagging: Once tagged, you are eliminated and must provide the paper slip name of the person you were meant to tag at that time (to the person who tagged you)

Sign-up will close at 4 pm today (don’t miss out!)

Secondary Departmental Collaboration at 10:30

Good morning all, today at 10:30, Secondary has Department Collaboration time.  Please choose a location to meet and then see the agenda below.

Agenda:

Return to the minutes from the previous department meeting and discuss any unfinished business. Then, choose one or more of the following options to work through collaboratively.

Options:

a. Continue collaboratively working on the tasks and exploring the resources from this morning’s presentation from Chris, Shiqi and Alexia. Here is a link to their folder of resources:Folder icon Unlocking Language Objectives Resources. Explore their tips for using Magic School to support your work or continue thinking through your units using their language objective planner.

b. Explore Ceci’s translanguaging padlet and the resources she provided. Consider using her prompts to have MagicSchool help to craft lesson plans and objectives. She has provided templates and completed samples on the padlet. Share what you create.

c. With your teaching partner(s) Look at your current units and consider both your content objectives and your language objectives for the upcoming week. What will the students need to understand and what kind of language output will they need to complete?

How can you build in intentional and strategic translanguaging opportunities (for input, intake/sense making or ouput) as a tool to help reach one or both of those objectives? What other strategies can you use to scaffold and to remove barriers?

d. Play with Teams ‘Collaboration Space’ or Class Notebooks for building digital word walls with students or curating resources for students. (Later, go to Ken’s optional session on using Teams to learn more about this)
