Music Evening

Come to our NIGHT OF ROCK! @ NIS. We’ll start off with show tunes, movie themes and fun pieces from our ensembles and soloists, before moving into our ROCK BAND SHOWCASES! Come see the grade 7, grade 8, grade 11, and Chinese school bands as they ROCK THE ROOM!

This year we have a packed list of performers, including 4 rock bands and a rock soloist! Come see some of your talent show favourites! Come listen to musical medleys, including Black Panther and Queen! All are welcome!

Many thanks to the hard working supervisors who have been guiding our students through this challenging and engaging PP project.

Today I received emails and visits to my room (all are welcome!) from both staff and students alike asking for clarifications. Also, I learned that people have not received my digest emails.

Here are a recap of the instructions.

Academic Honesty Form Instructions:  (Click the link for a video tutorial.)

Please complete the form, print it, and have you and your student sign and date the form. Give me the hard copy or put the scanned copy on the server.

TeacherLargeStorage / Personal Project

Please find your students’ folder and upload their report in Word, their report in PDF, any evidence of a soft-copy product, and their Academic Honesty form. If they did a media report, please upload that file (whatever media form it took).

If they have a physical product, this can come to my classroom.

I hope this helps! Please keep the questions coming.

We will be starting an ABRSM5 club once a week during the first half of lunch in the music room. This will take place during either Day 4 or 7 each week (depending on whether Miss Keus has an assembly tech rehearsal). We will have an ABRSM5 WeChat that includes your parents and every Sunday night we’ll send out the schedule of which day the club will take place. This is not a mandatory club and Miss Keus will not be chasing students who miss sessions – it’s all up to you and how serious you are.

If you are interested in attending, please come to Miss Keus’ room today during the 1st half of lunch.

PP in the Library

Dear PPers,

We are getting to the final stretch! With goals chosen & researched, and product made, now it’s time to turn your attention to the report. Would you like some SUPER help?

Come to the library today from 3:00 – 4:15 for some heroic help!

PP Thursdays

Looking to level up your PP?

There’s no cheat codes or Easter eggs for you –> just hard work and perseverance.

Come to the library today from 3:15 – 4:15 and Miss Keus will help you become the PP Boss.

PS: Your princess is not in another castle, she’s in the library.

Chinese New Years Skit 2019

Many years ago, Mr. McBride and Ms. Xue create an NIS tradition –> the CNY Teacher-Student skit. We can’t match Mr. Tyoschin dancing Gangnam Style or Ms. Weatherly showing off her taichi, but we’ll definitely do our best to entertain you.

We are looking for 10 teachers and/or students to participate in this year’s skit. We must have 1 teenage female, but otherwise all roles can be any gender or age.

If you are interested, please contact Miss Keus (M252) or Ms. Bella (Hutong) as soon as possible. We will be rehearsing Sunday mornings from 09:00 – 12:00.

PP in the Library

Would you like help in takin your PP to the next level?

Come to the library today after school for some high-quality, focused work time. We’ll help you construct your PP so that it meets all the building codes needed for a successful product.

Chinese Drumming Club – NEAMC

The Chinese Drumming club will be presenting at this year’s North East Asia Mathematics Competition. Rehearsals will be every Wednesday during the first half of lunch – there will also be a 3 hour weekend rehearsal (date to be determined). This performance will be part of the “Arts in the Community” programme.

There are limited drums available, so all members should come promptly to the music room today at 12:50 to ensure they have a spot.

Please go to studentlargestorage / music / sheet music / drumming to get your rehearsal files.

School Bell

This week’s bell is called, “Seaweed Dance.” It was submitted by Ms. Chen’s advisory.

NIS Community Orchestra

We have little ensemble that plays at charity events – NIC Benefit Concert, RFG Christmas Market, NIS Earth Hour, etc. At the moment, we have 2 parents, 3 teachers, and 2 students. We are always happy to have more members. If you are interested in being in our little group, please contact Miss Keus in M252. This is open to NIS community members (staff, teachers, parents, and students.)

School Bells

I can hear the bells.

Tracy, are you alright?

Don’t you hear them chime?

I don’t hear anything…

Please submit your bells in studentlargestorage / school bells. When you submit, please put the name of your advisory. We try to alternate between primary, middle, and upper school bells and we need to make sure we don’t miss any. If you have already submitted, please go back and rename them.

If there aren’t enough bells submitted, then the bell selection will be at the mercy of Miss Keus! (evil laugh!)

Drumming Club

Drumming Club starts today at lunch, 12:50 – 13:20, for grades 6 and up, in M251. We will be preparing for two performances – North East Asian Mathematics Competition and Chinese New Year.

School Bells

School Bells:

Bells are chosen by advisory teams and last one week per year. Some bells slots are pre-scheduled (e.g. Chinese New Year, Productions, DP exams, etc.). Emptied slots are filled with an alternating schedule of PS, MS, and US bells. If not enough bells are submitted to fill the schedule, the holes are filled through individual student and staff requests.

MSUS Deadlines: August 30th; PS Deadlines: September 14th

Location: Studentlargestorage / School Bells

  • Bells must be appropriate for all ages, grades, and community members.
  • All music must be known to be clean. This means instrumental clips of known explicit songs will not be accepted.
  • Individuals and advisories may submit as many clips as they like; they will be used to fill holes (e.g. Weeks 3 & 4 currently have no bells! hint hint)
  • You may submit an entire song or a clip less than 17 seconds in length. If you submit an entire song, Miss Keus will choose the best portion to be used.
  • If an advisory submits their song after the deadline given, Miss Keus will do her best to find an available slot, if possible.
