New Student Dress Code

Thanks to cooperation between teachers and members of the Gender A and Gender Z service groups, NIS has adopted a new student dress code. This dress code is as follows:

“NIS is an inclusive learning community with a range of diverse cultures. With this in mind, we expect students to dress in an appropriate and respectful manner for learning. This includes no visible underwear and no clothing with graphics or wording that could offend. Students are trusted to demonstrate good judgement in their choice of attire. Faculty will address related concerns on an individual basis, and in a respectful manner.”

If you have any question about the new dress code, please fill in this anonymous survey. During assembly on May 13th, members from Gender A and Gender Z will be answering questions.

Lost Property

Congratulations, Everyone! We have managed to reunite over 50 items with their owners. We have one more week to find homes for the last 100 lost items before they will be donated to charity or thrown out.

There have been many parent requests for items that have not yet been found. Particularly lunchboxes and jackets. Please check your classrooms and lockers carefully to see if you have anything you can take home now the weather is warmer.

Please look carefully at the clothes racks in the PTA area and outside the gate just in case you find something of yours tucked away.

Let’s not pollute the planet with more clothes waste. Take care of what you already have rather than buying more.

All School NAT Testing Today

Hello All,

Another round of all-school NAT testing is headed your way today!

Primary students and Homeroom Teachers/Teaching Assistants will NAT in the EY Cafeteria.

All other Primary staff and all Secondary students and teachers will NAT in the Centre Café.

Please see this schedule for your timing and let Mr. Bratton know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

G8 Design – Video Art Exhibition

Grade 8 Design: Video Art Exhibition

You may have seen some strange things happening on the various screens and projector in and around the library foyer. This is the work of our Grade 8 Media Design class who have been spending the semester developing and refining experimental films for an audience.

Take a moment to watch, listen and think about what the students are trying to convey. They also have an artist statement next to the screen explaining their work.

The exhibition finishes Friday afternoon.

Campus Access Update (Scan School Location Code)

Dear all,

Please scan School Location Code at school gates and show the screen to security guards to get access to campus from May 9th (Monday).

Thanks for your cooperation.

Assessment Practices for Accelerating Learning (K-5 Math) with Erma Anderson
Thursday, May 5,12, and 19,26, 2022 (Four sessions)
7:00 PM HKT (60 Minutes)
Formative assessment is critical for showing us what students have and have not learned. However, formative data does not always provide clear, actionable steps for determining where students are in their learning and how best to move learning forward. One way to use formative data more effectively is in conjunction with a quality learning progression, a blueprint for how learning typically develops over time.

How to End Bullying and Cyberbullying at Your School with Nicholas Carlisle
Thursday, May 5, 2022
7:00 PM HKT (90 Minutes)
Student bullying and harassment are some of the most painful challenges facing educators today. As schools went online in response to the pandemic, cyberbullying has increased and student civility has plummeted. Yet most teachers and school leaders have never been trained in an effective system for how to respond.

The Landscape Model of Learning: Designing Student-Centered Experiences for Cognitive and Cultural Inclusion with Jennifer Klein
Saturday, May 7, 2022
9:00 – 10:30 AM HKT
Most schools still function with age-level groupings and an industrial-era mentality about students, where we presume a common starting and ending point for all. While such systems may have helped us standardize education and make it more efficient, they make some students feel perpetually behind, hold back our most talented, and ignore the “middle.” Rather than shooting for access for all students, authors Jennifer D. Klein and Kapono Ciotti have developed The Landscape Framework to help teachers and leaders ensure the highest levels of success possible for all students.

These leaders will share their experiences of a need for a human-centered and humanizing approach to this work, as well as systems and structures that define our actions. It is in this dialogue where we reflect on our individual and collective roles and responsibilities within the interconnected ecosystems.
