Year: 2015

Language Acquisition

Don’t put ELL/English B students on the spot by asking them to participate (e.g., give an answer in front of the rest of the class) before they are ready. Have other students model what is required before asking an ELL/English B student so that they do not feel threatened.

TILT Skills – Seesaw

Today will be another session about the ePortfolio iPad session – SEESAW!

It will be very similar to Tuesday’s session, so there is no need to come again (unless you really want to).

Sessions are held in the Strategy Room (C115), starting at the beginning of Lunch (12:50), and running for about 30 minutes.

Thursday, August 20 – iPads – Seesaw – Tom
Friday, August 21 – Organizing your life with OneNote – Emily

Sport Sign Ups – it’s not too late!!

If you have not yet signed up for one of the many sports started in the first few weeks of school there is still time.

Starting next week we have ACAMIS Touch Rugby (Gr9 – 12) and SCISAC Soccer (Gr8 – 9).

Already started we have Cross Country, ACAMIS Volleyball, Swimming and CISSA Touch Rugby.

Check the Athletics noticeboard for the times and days of these practices and sign up on Veracross.

G10-12 Do you have any schedule issues?

Please login to veracross and check your schedule. If you see any blanks (besides Likeskills 101) you have a schedule problem, please come and see me.

G11-12 you should have three HL and three SL courses this is crucial for your transcript. Please check that as well.

Gym use by students

We think it is fantastic that our students want to practice and play their sports outside of the scheduled practice times. However, we would really appreciate it if you could do this outside in the field when you do not have adult supervision. There is lots of space!! It is for safety reasons that we cannot allow students to practice in the gym unsupervised.  This applies to before school, break-times, after school and at weekends.

Thanks Teachers and Staff

Hello All,

You should find a sweetie in your pigeon hole this morning as a SMALL token of thanks for your extra efforts, can-do attitude, and mental gymnastics required to facilitate our first-ever Parent-Led Conferences. They are much appreciated!

The taste of the chocolate will be temporary, but the impact your efforts make on our students’ well-being are forever. Thanks and enjoy!

GO TEAM!

Garden Plots Available

The Green Team would like to invite our community to request a plot in the garden for growing their own organic vegetables.  Please fill out the survey below to reserve a plot before August 23rd.

If you have previously used a plot and you would like to continue using it, you will also need to submit the survey because we don’t know who has which plot. If you don’t fill out the survey you might loose your space but if requested later can still receive one if we have availability.

Language Acquisiton

Use non-verbal cues (such as gestures, pictures and concrete objects) in your teaching to assist comprehension. Don’t assume that ELL/English B students understand what you are saying  (even if they act as if they do!). Ask questions to confirm.

This year there is a new theatre project involving an exchange between students from NIS and  2 local schools in Nanjing. There will be weekly rehearsals and the  project will culminate in a performance in a professional theatre venue in Nanjing.
