Language Acquisition

Treat ELL/English B students as full members of the class. Refer to them often and make it clear to them (and to the class) that you expect them to work and learn just like everyone else. Then ask for more and more participation and work as these students become able to accomplish it.

Back it up!

This is your friendly weekly reminder to back up your computer.

Did you know that, according to a survey done by Apple , “only four percent [of users] back up [their computer] regularly. In a nutshell, this means that if you could snap your fingers and make one Mac user’s main hard drive disappear, there’s a 96 percent chance that you just destroyed files that are completely unrecoverable.”

Don’t know how? Read this or come to the game room during the first half of lunch for help from Ms. Johnson

Don’t have a hard drive? Ms. Cassie in the Apple Store can order one for you

International SOS webinar: The latest information and advice from Tianjin

International SOS Webinar:
The latest advice and information from Tianjin
Thursday, 27 August, 11 – 11.30 am (Beijing time)

Following a fire and series of explosions at the Binhai port area of Tianjin on 12 August, the clean up process is underway to get one of China’s key economic hubs back on its feet. The scale of the event has had an effect on both domestic and international business with many operations grinding to a halt due to high health and safety risks. With nearly two weeks having passed, what are the challenges facing companies now and can normal business practices resume?

Join International SOS and Control Risks experts to understand more about the aftermath of this dramatic incident. During the session, our speakers will discuss:

  • What is the current situation in Tianjin?
  • What are the medical and security risks in the Tianjin area?
  • What advice can be given to people on the ground in Tianjin and business travelers?

Speakers:

Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, Regional Medical Director, International SOS North Asia

Eliza Murray, Regional Security Information Manager, International SOS and Control Risks

If you have any questions, or would like a recording of the webinar please email.

Notification Email for Assignment

Dear MYP/DP Teachers,

Juan and Kasson indicate that if you send assignment notifications, please send it to Parents and Advisor instead of Homeroom. This year, we use advisory group and advisor instead of homeroom.

The “Notify Homeroom” button can not be removed. Please ignore it. Thanks.

Language Acquisition

Display Key Vocabulary

Once students have been introduced to key vocabulary, display the key vocabulary for that unit with definitions/visuals. This will help them to become familiar with them and will help them to get a better understanding of the concepts being taught.
