There are still a few vacancies for students to join the local school English tutoring group who will go to the Middle School next door and give some informal English tuition. I expect we will start (the Wednesday) visits in about two weeks. Please email me if you would like to join or simply sign up on the C&S / CAS signup link.
USA Universities Visit
Grade 11? Thinking of applying to the US to study?
Any other grade, considering the USA?
Put Monday October 19th in your iCal, Diary, agenda NOW.
At 9.00am, we have Boston University coming to visit (in my office). If you want to come along, you’ll need to get yourself excused from class and email me ahead of time.
At 10.40, in the MYP LGR, we have 6 US colleges setting up a mini-fair (as last year). These are:
Widener University, Western New England University, College of Saint Benedict/ Saint John’s University, University of La Verne, Northern Kentucky University, Loyola University Chicago
If you are thinking, ‘I’ve never heard of them, why should I bother?’ STOP thinking that, this instant! Having never heard of them is a good reason for coming – you are going to learn something new. In addition, they will all have something to say generically about the US application process. In short, if you are thinking of applying to the US, you should definitely be coming to this event.
After break, I will be asking the reps to present on The College Essay, Scholarships for International Students and Living and Studying in the USA. These mini-seminars will eat into the first half of Block 3, so please make sure you have permission from your teacher to be absent.
Scrooge Whole Cast Read Through
A reminder that there is a whole cast read through today straight after school. During this time you will receive scripts, rehearsal schedule and other information. Please do not be late.
3:15 start – Black Box.
School Bell
This week’s bell is “Waiting for Love,” submitted by both Mello and Synder advisories – two groups with great tastes. “Waiting for Love” was produced by Avicii (Tim Burgling), a Swedish DJ, remixer, and music producer. A 2015, this song is sung by Simon Alfred and is about a dog searching for its lost owner during a war.
To find out when your bell will be played, go to Office365.
Bags: The Saga Continues…
Hello MYP/DP Superstars.
Thanks for making the shift to using your locker at the start and end of lunch, for waiting for the bell to head upstairs for Block 5, and for not leaving your bags in the library, games room, or in various other places around the gym/cafeteria. Well done.
Now, the question has become: what should students who are using the library for academic purposes and/or games room attendees do with their backpacks when it’s time to eat lunch?
The answer is simple. These students should take their bags to their directly to their lockers at the start of MYP/DP lunch quietly and independently, then head to the cafeteria. Keywords: directly, quietly, independently.
Thanks for your continued contribution in making NIS a safe, happy, and secure learning community!

If your grade level wishes to use the theatre for practice please email me to arrange a time well in advance. This is to avoid any disappointment as the theatre does get extremely busy at certain times during the year!

MYP Lunch Revisited
Hello MYP Rockstars,
A few reminders from our assembly last Friday…
-We love you and want to keep you safe and organized. So…
-Please go to your locker right after Block 4 and again five minutes before the start of Block 5 (on the bell).
Why? It’s just a good habit to get into. Your back needs a rest and your know your things will be safe.
-MYP students shouldn’t be upstairs during lunch unless a teacher has asked you to meet (PPP, Stuco, etc).
Why? There is no one on-duty upstairs to make sure you are safe and sound. Plus, your dedicated teachers need a break!
-Take advantage of the great outdoors, gym, upstairs in the cafeteria, or library foyer during 1st 1/2 of lunch!
Why? These spaces were designed just for you!
-Backpacks are NOT allowed in the cafeteria during lunch. They go in your locker.
Why? We don’t have enough ice and bandages for all the injuries caused by tripping over 100’s of backpacks!
-We are looking for ideas for a better way to use our lockers. Let your Stuco reps know if you have one!
Why? Your ideas are often better than ours and Stuco exists for a reason!
Thanks and have a great (short) week!
House Challenge-Tech Challenge on Friday block 5
Dear MYP students, the first tech challenge will be on Friday block 5. Represent your houses well.
