I have added a glossary to the home page of the Patterns core unit. I shall do the same for each new unit as we start it. This is not intended to be intimidating – merely a resource for you to be able to check back on as you are reading or revising later on. By and large we shall use these definitions, though some texts may offer slight variants.

Development and Wealth
We have now started our second unit, focussing on disparities in wealth and development. Watch the Hans Rosling Development video clip for a fascinating review of historical development over the last 200 years.
Gender and change
Our last section in Populations in Transition. Click the menu above (Patterns and Change – Core Unit/ Population) to see today’s lesson.
Migration
As we zip through this section, please use the link on the left for the BBC site… Also a great revision tool for later on.
Urban Environments
I’ve selected this optional unit for both HL and SL as, well, we live in one. It is the unit in which you will select and execute your fieldwork. We’ll be covering the course as outlined in the Course Companion, as well as working on some very specific fieldwork skills such as sampling, questionnaire design and implementation and choosing appropriate graphing methods to represent data.
Suitable urban fieldwork subjects would include:
hierarchy of businesses
relationship of rental cost to distance from CBD
public transportation and its effects
traffic flows and densities
residential structure
environmental quality
How does it work?
Well, posts will always show up here, on the home page. The other pages are for more static information. On the left you should also see ‘bits of the course’. Posts will be categorized according to which section of the course they most specifically apply to. Those which are general, such as this one, appear under ‘uncategorized’.
What it's all about…
Welcome to DP Geography
I’m experimenting with using this blog / web site as the principle tool for the course over the next two years. We’ll see how it integrates with the new LMS system (Veracross).
