On Friday, Nov. 29 we had our last G6 lesson in the “Growing Up Digital” Series of the Life Skills program. These were four lessons that occurred once every 8 days. While we explored a variety of areas such as our digital footprint, scams and phishing, security settings, and distractions, we spent a greater amount of time on the topic of balance. This was done in conjunction with grade 6 math teachers, Mr. Thompson and Ms. Watkins. In order to make this topic of “being balanced” personal, students tracked their activities for approximately 10 days. Data was collected, and in the last Growing Up Digital class, students used the data to compare against their perceptions and predictions, and also to analyze their own behaviors.

How would you describe Chris Van Allsburg?
In grade four, we spent some time digging into the work of author/illustrator Chris Van Allsburg. It started out by reading Zathura and analyzing whether or not this qualified as a Science Fiction work. Of course, you can’t really read Zathura without knowing Jumanji, and thus the exploration began.
