PYP Design @NIS

Design Thinking is simply a way of approaching challenges. The DT process begins with an investigation of a challenge or problem. Students then reflect on what they’ve learned about the problem and then begin to generate ideas on how best to approach solutions. Prototyping, or building solutions, is the next exciting step. By using a variety of materials and tools, students build models of their ideas to see if their solutions are workable. Finally, students test and refine their designs for effective solutions.

At NIS we are excited to bring the Design Thinking approach to the primary grades to further add to our inquiry-based practices. By encouraging our primary students to approach challenges through Design Thinking and to create with minds, hands and tools we are setting the stage for greater student investigation and innovation.
