Some success criteria

Some success criteria you might consider including come from the G8 and G9 video specifications list.

(NB: These refer almost entirely to the technical success/quality of a video product and are not sufficient to achieve the 7-8 grade band in G10.)

720p (HD) or 1080p (Full HD)
Compositional Elements (esp. Rule of Thirds)
Good sound (inverse-square law/“the best zoom is your feet”)
Narrative (e.g: three-act)
Royalty-free music
Variety of shots
Steady shots (use monopod or tripod)
Continuity
Future-proof (no transitions, special effects, etc.)
Avoid backlighting (silhouetting)

Criterion B: Developing ideas

Students develop a solution. They should be able to:

i. develop design specifications, which clearly states the success criteria for the design of a solution

ii. develop a range of feasible design ideas, which can be correctly interpreted by others

iii. present the chosen design and justify its selection

iv. develop accurate and detailed planning drawings/diagrams and outline the requirements for the

creation of the chosen solution.

Criterion B

Due date: TBD

Analyse a range of existing products

A: Inquiring and analysing

Students are presented with a design situation, from which they identify a problem that needs to be solved. They analyse the need for a solution and conduct an inquiry into the nature of the problem.

In order to reach the aims of design, students should be able to:

i. explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem for a specified client/target audience

ii. identify and prioritize the primary and secondary research needed to develop a solution to the problem

iii. analyse a range of existing products that inspire a solution to the problem

iv. develop a detailed design brief which summarizes the analysis of relevant research.

Design Brief: I would like to produce a media product to inform, provoke and persuade (target audience) to ………………

(eg: “I would like to produce a media product to inform, provoke and persuade foreign tourists to visit Nanjing during their China tour.”)

For existing products:

1. Evaluate their quality and content

2. Consider suitability of media product for target audience

3. Consider whether you have the skills, knowledge and equipment to recreate the existing products

Place text, screen shots, screen recordings, etc.’ in your Design Folder (iBook).

Identify three or more target audiences

Secondary Research (empathy): Identify at least five things that each audience would need to know.

Example: “I would like to produce a media product to inform, provoke and persuade potential investors to move (their capital) to Nanjing.”

I: Target audience: Potential Investors (capital)

Empathy: “Potential investors in Nanjing would benefit from knowing…”

1. Infrastructure

2. Stable electricity supply

3. ……………………………

I would like to produce a media product to inform, provoke and persuade foreign tourists to visit Nanjing during their China tour.”

I would like to produce a media product to inform, provoke and persuade expat families…

Evaluation – due before 12:50PM on Friday 06 June

Your Evaluation should have four parts:

1. Carry out a test to analyse the quality of your media product against your specifications

2. Reflect on the impact of your media product

3. Reflect on your performance at each stage of the Design Cycle (Investigate, Design, Plan, Create)

4. Reflect on your achievement of the AoI
