Using Mathematics and Technology to Explore World, State and City Flags with Ron Lancaster
Dec 11, Saturday, December 11, 2021
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM HKT
Mathematics appears everywhere, including within the designs of the flags of countries, states and cities. When we view these flags through a mathematical lens we can see patterns, shapes, symmetry, angles, transformations, lines, curves and functions. In this webinar we will learn how flags can engage students in mathematical curiosity, discourse, and the effective use of various forms of technology. Connecting mathematics to the design of flags has an additional and intentional benefit – students learn more about the world and they become global citizens. Flag the date and join Ron Lancaster for this webinar.

The Future of Enrollment Management: The Way Ahead During and Post Pandemic with John Littleford
Saturday, December 11, 2021
Dec 11, 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM HKT
Some of our international schools experienced heavy demand during the early months of the pandemic as parents exited those for-profit and private competitors that were not delivering a satisfactory remote academic program. Others unfortunately experienced declining enrollment as expatriate families did not return. In both circumstances, schools can plan more successfully to sustain and build demand and to strengthen the foundations of enrollment management through powerful stakeholder engagement.

Post Pandemic Governance: What Have We Learned, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly with John Littleford
Jan 29, Saturday, January 29, 2022
9:00 AM to 10:00 AM HKT
There is some good news and some new ideas emanating from the pandemic that may be with us for the foreseeable future. This session will focus both on the positive takeaways from a governance perspective but also upon what the very challenging experiences taught us about appropriate board communications with constituents and maintaining and strengthening “fire walls”.

Important: Those who have previously registered do not need to re-register.

Assessment Practices for Accelerating Learning (6-12) with Erma Anderson
Feb 3, Thursday, February 3 & 17, 2022
7:00 PM HKT
Formative assessment is critical for showing us what students have and have not learned. However, formative data does not always provide clear, actionable steps for determining where students are in their learning and how best to move learning forward. One way to use formative data more effectively is in conjunction with a quality learning progression, a blueprint for how learning typically develops over time.

As we transition back to school—online, in-person, or hybrid— leaders in education must find strategies to inspire hope and leverage positive change to confront the adversities we have faced. Hello All,

Please see the reminders below as we countdown the final days until our 30th celebration. Action items in bold.

TODAY

30th Anniversary Hope Ribbons:  We will come around to collect these from Homerooms and Advisors today around 11am. These can also be brought to Weiwei. Thanks!

New House Shirts: Please reminder students to get their new shirt and wear tomorrow!

Flags and Placards: Primary Homeroom teachers and Secondary Advisors will find flags corresponding to their parade country, along with sticks for flag waving in their mailboxes. Placards with the name of each parade nation can be found in the old Admissions Suite across from the old Design Pit. Primary Homeroom teachers and Secondary Advisors, could you please send a student to pick these up today. Thanks!

FRIDAY

Morning Friday Assembly Practice: Tomorrow morning we will practice getting everyone into the Blue Gym and seated in their correct locations. The timings in which each Advisory and Homeroom departs their classroom is critical to our success. Please see these timing below and stick to them. Please bring placards, not flags to the practice.

Friday Anniversary Cupcakes: Our wonderful PTA has sponsored 30th Anniversary cupcakes for all students and staff. These will be briefly displayed in the Library Foyer on Friday morning, before being distributed to Primary Classrooms and Secondary Block Two classes. Cupcakes for staff will be available in the faculty lounge at Break.

Friday Afternoon Celebration Plan: A reminder that Homerooms/Advisories will march to the Blue Gym and sit in a predetermined order to enjoy a celebratory all-school assembly. They will then exit the Blue Gym in order and parade through the school with flags and music, exiting via the PAC and on to the pitch to create a large “30” for a school photo. We will then finish in a Circle of Peace before 3:00pm where Primary students will return to their Homerooms and Advisories are dismissed. Please see this plan for Friday afternoon specifics and note the lunchtime changes.

Many thanks for your support as we celebrate three decades of NIS. Please let us know what questions are out there!
