Inclusion at NIS

Inclusion at NIS

At NIS, we believe the following about inclusion:

Definition: Everyone feels welcomed, valued, and accepted.

Action: Seeking out and integrating diverse perspectives and experiences is an active and ongoing process of intentional engagement that connects and strengthens community.

But what does this mean for our practice in the classroom and in our community? Here are some beginning thoughts from the team at Novak Education.

Tip: Read the infographic substituting ‘difference’  (think: neurodiversity, language proficiency, learner variability, sexuality, ethnic/cultural background) for disability.

G7-12 Student Council Meeting

This meeting is for students who played an important and active role in last year’s Student Council with Ms Beck.

We will have a meeting Monday AUG 21) , Lunch 1, in D228 with Mr Toole to discuss how to create this year’s Student Council.

Note About Music Facilities

Please be advised that the Large Group Rehearsal space in the Music suite is off limits to all students during the week of August 21 to 25, except during approved class times and the Mon, Wed and Thurs after-school activities.  We appreciate the patience as we inventory and prepare everything for this year.
Morning break and lunch duty teachers are instructed to ask students who come in during those times to find other spaces for the time being.  Please be respectful of their directions.  Much thanks from the Music Department.

Bells of NIS

One proud tradition of our school is that students choose the bells. This is typically done by Primary homerooms, Secondary Advisories, or other NIS student groups with songs in their collective hearts and/or positive messages to share.

Bell must be appropriate for all ages and under 10 seconds in length. They are usually songs that are downloaded, then edited in Quicktime or other music programs, then saved in one of the usual audio file types.

Any homeroom, Advisory, or student group that would like to submit a bell should upload their selections to the prestigious Official NIS Weekly Bell Selection Committee using this folder. Putting the homeroom/Advisory/group in the file name is also encouraged.
