Upcoming College Information Sessions: RSVP and Mark Your Calendars!

Dear students and parents,
We are excited to announce that we will have six colleges from the USA, Canada, Singapore, and Switzerland visiting the NIS campus in October and November, following the sessions with Fordham and Stony Brook University. (Please refer to the previous email for details on the Fordham and Stony Brook University sessions.)
This is one of the busiest seasons for our senior students as they prepare for their early applications, and these college visits will provide valuable opportunities for our students and families to explore and make well-informed decisions. For younger students, please come along and learn about the options you can explore during the sessions.
Singapore Management University
  • Date: October 22nd
  • Time: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Location: LGR 3
  • Description: Singapore Management University (SMU) is a leading Asian institution recognized for its world-class research and distinguished teaching since its founding in 2000. Its mission is to generate impactful research and develop creative, entrepreneurial leaders.
University of Victoria
  • Date: October 24th
  • Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
  • Location: LGR 3
  • Description: The University of Victoria is a well-known comprehensive university in Canada, located on the West Coast in the heart of BC’s capital city, Victoria. Our campus is surrounded by green space, and it’s a 15-minute walk to the ocean. This session will be conducted during G6-11 students’ Discover China, and G12 students and secondary parents are expected to attend.
University of Toronto
  • Date: October 31st
  • Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
  • Location: LGR 1 (1st floor)
  • Description: The University of Toronto is a research-based institution. Established in 1827, it is Canada’s largest university with three campuses.
EHL Hospitality Business School
  • Date: November 12th
  • Time: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Location: LGR 1 (1st floor)
  • Description: EHL was founded in 1893 as the world’s first hospitality management school. With 130 years of proven expertise in preparing leaders for the future of the hospitality industry, our institution unites the best professionals in hospitality training, academics, and research to create stronger connections between education and industry.

College Visit – Fordham University and Stony Brook University Combined Session

We are excited to host a Combined Information Session featuring Fordham University and Stony Brook University at NIS!
The session will be on Thursday, October 17th, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at HUB LGR 3.
Fordham University, the Jesuit University of New York, is committed to academic excellence and the Jesuit tradition of intellectual and ethical development. Founded in 1841, Fordham offers over 70 majors and minors across diverse programs. Students can choose between two dynamic campuses: the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx, adjacent to the New York Botanical Garden and Bronx Zoo, and the Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan, just a 5-minute walk from Central Park. Both campuses provide a rigorous education with practical experience, preparing students for success. Fordham is also a Division I NCAA school, with 23 varsity teams at Rose Hill.
Stony Brook University — New York’s flagship university and No. 1 public university — is one of America’s most dynamic public universities and a center of academic excellence. Founded in 1957, it offers over 200 academic programs, including undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees. Stony Brook is known for its strong emphasis on research and innovation, with numerous research institutes and partnerships that contribute to advancements in various fields. The campus is located on Long Island, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, and provides students with access to a vibrant community and diverse extracurricular activities. Stony Brook is also a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) and competes at the Division I level in NCAA athletics.

MAP Class Reports

Dear Secondary Teachers,

The Class Reports for MAP have been updated. All teachers in secondary Grades 6-10 should be able to see their class reports for Math and Reading by selecting their name > class.

First Aid Training

This coming Tuesday, October 15th 12-4pm, several colleagues will be doing their First Aid training to update their certification. This will be a first of a few sessions of First Aid trainings throughout the year that we will be having to ensure that all our employees are updated with First Aid Certifications. The certification will be conducted through Taikang Hospital and will provide a Red Cross certificate recognized by China. For this first session we are prioritizing trip leaders, coaches and positions where emergency situations might be more prevalent. The following teachers will be a part of this first round of First Aid training.

Reminder: Student Art Competition Deadline: Today, 1 pm

Theme: How AI is Changing the World 

The CSR Student Art Competition is back, inviting all students to explore the transformative impact of artificial intelligence. This competition aims to raise awareness of corporate social responsibility through creative expression.

  • Open to: All students, regardless of grade level
  • Winners: Will be honored at the 2024 CSR Awards Ceremony

Submission Details:

  • Medium: Any 2-D or 3-D art form, such as photography, painting, drawing, digital design, sculpture, textiles, or collage
  • Maximum Dimensions: A3 Format

Hub Opening Today

Thank you for your cooperation during the practice yesterday. Please see The Hub opening schedule for today.

9:30am – Students and faculty go to HUB and get in positions ​

9:45am – VIPs escorted by SLT to the HUB​

Lion and student volunteers are waiting with ribbon in HUB foyer, all students and faculty in position. When VIPs arrive, all stand and clap. ​

Laurie to give a brief speech, ribbons cut at first position (in foyer)​

10:10am – VIPs move through corridor to Forum and cut 2nd ribbon  All clap again, event ends.

Once VIPs move from the foyer to the forum, EY and G1-2 students can remain to watch the second ribbon cutting, or quietly exit.
