ETC Field Test

Dear All,

Today (Friday) we have our last but not least field test for ETC 2016! This session is titled, Cultivating Empathy in the Drama classroom and will be held in the drama classroom (next to the blackbox in the PAC). The session will be from 1:20 to 1:50pm. Please come and support your colleague. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Language Acquisition

Give clearly defined goals when setting tasks.

Language Acquisition

Look out for culturally unique vocabulary.

For most ELL/English B students, their background knowledge is lacking, especially with things that are unique to some/most English speaking cultures. It’s important to directly teach these vocabulary words: Show them videos or pictures of things that are not common in their own language.

MYP/DP Second Round of Life 101 Begins Today!

Greetings MYP/DP Students,

Please find the location of today’s Life 101 Lesson for Grades 7-12

Grade 7: In the Blue Gym with Mr. T (No candy allowed!)

Grade 8: In the Band Room with Mrs. Keus (Put your Thinking Hats on!)

Grade 9: Report to Ms. Creme’s room to start with (Humanties is a Life Skill! Who knew?!)

Grade 10: According to Mrs. Clarke’s directions (The future is here!)

Grade 11: Report to the teacher of the session in which you registered (Student choice in action!)

Grade 12: The usual. (Commiserate in the Lounge about how brutal the DP is, sleep, pray to the IB gods, etc.)

Thanks and enjoy!

Language Acquisition

Try to avoid  questions that assume a cultural knowledge that the ELL/English B students are unlikely to have. A mathematics question about the batting average of a baseball player may cause unnecessary difficulties to a student who has never seen the game played and knows nothing about its rules.

Language Acquisition

Provide opportunities for ELL/English B students to use the language and concepts you are teaching them in meaningful situations. Include a variety of ways of participating in your instruction, e.g. in cooperative groups. Encourage all students to work with and help ELL/English B students.
