Attention all actors!

Are you an out-of-work actor, bored with life since the last production ended? Are you an actor who can’t sing and is tired of musicals? Are you simply looking for an opportunity to appear on stage and entertain people? Most important, are you in Grade 9 or above and able to commit yourself to rehearsals with a small group of actors to prepare for a performance date in early May? If so, read on.

The Accidental Theatre Company started in 2014 as a way for NIS actors to express themselves in small-scale theatre productions. It kept them in practice and pushed them to challenge themselves in new ways. Every production from 2014 to 2017 was a comedy, which were hugely popular with actors and audience alike.

The Accidental Theatre only happens when there is a clear team of dedicated actors who are determined to work hard together put the show on. This year, we are auditioning to see if it will be possible to put a team together for a new production for 2020.

If you are interested, come to auditions on either Tuesday 14th January or Wednesday 15th January, lunchtimes (first lunch) in the Black Box. Get your audition extract in advance from either Mr. Brown or Mr. Hammond. The cast and play will be chosen by Monday, 20th January.

MONEY????

How could a sum of money help you achieve your Service as Action project or your CAS project????

You can apply to ACAMIS for a grant. That means, if you win, you get money for your project. Money that you don’t have to pay back.

ACAMIS Service Learning Grants have been established to provide financial support for student initiatives in service learning in the ACAMIS host countries, China and Mongolia.

In 2017 – Cathy won $1000 USD to teach students at the Middle School next door to play rugby.

In 2019 – Felicity won $1500 USD for her knitting project.

Awards are made to individuals or groups that require students to:

  • Apply academic, social and personal skills to support and improve the community;
  • Make decisions that will lead to authentic outcomes;
  • Grow as individuals and increase community engagement;
  • Gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their community, and society; and
  • Demonstrate their abilities while and through helping others.

ACAMIS Chinese New Year Cards Challenge

It is once again time to celebrate the new year in China!  Students of all ages from ACAMIS member schools are invited to participate.

This is not a competition, it is an opportunity for students to design something with a specific purpose and learn from the process.

A top selection will be selected from each division of the school (Primary, Middle, Secondary) and will be displayed on the ACAMIS Homepage. They will also be included in the upcoming ACAMIS in Action Newsletter to be share with all member schools.

For grades 10 and 11, this could count as a Creativity Experience for CAS!

Here is how to participate:

1. Open to all grades and classes (not just art!) from K-12.

2. Participating schools will select a single submission for up to three grade levels (Primary, Middle, and Secondary).

3. Submissions should be medium resolution for digital viewing (around 120 ppi).

4. Submissions should be in either jpeg or pdf format.

5. No student or school names should appear in the greeting card.

6. Please include the words: “ACAMIS” and a positive, new year greeting in the design.

Student Surveys Grades 3-12

Hello Students in Grades 3-12,

Our annual student surveys will be administered by your teachers beginning this week. This is an important opportunity for you to give your teachers honest, anonymous, and confidential feedback on your classroom experience. It’s also a chance to flex student voice in your learning! In other words, each survey is important, so give them you best effort (yes, even if you end up doing more than one!). Thanks!

January 10th – IMPORTANT DATE

It’s happening on January 10th!

ManageBac will be closed/locked/inaccessible/impenetrable!

Please fill out your SA, Volunteering or CAS experiences before January 10th- that means description, SMART goal, ONE learning outcome (unless you are in DP), reflections and evidence are uploaded.

If you need a little support and or a big nudge, please pop in to see Ms Anna ASAP.

Students…Break Tomorrow

Hello Superstar Students,

Tomorrow’s Break will last from 10:05am-10:30am. An FYI that the football pitch, bamboo forest, and gaming room will be closed. Thanks for your help with this. Also, a reminder that school finishes at 11:00am tomorrow as well.

The schedule is here as a reminder. Have a great day!

Tomorrow’s Schedule Update

Hello All,

A slight adjustment has been made to tomorrow’s schedule out of respect for the annual anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre. The plan is to delay the break until approximately 10:05am, after the symbolic air raid siren at 10:01am concludes. Please keep students in class until the siren finishes sounding. At that point students are welcome to go to break and teachers are invited to the staff lounge for some last-school-day-of-2019 treats. Our leadership team will cover break-time teaching.

Also of note is that the only NIS “bells” that will sound tomorrow should be the 7:55am “get to class!” bell and the 11:00am dismissal. Beyond that it will be up to all of us to help students move between Homerooms/Advisories, assemblies, and Break based upon the schedule.

Many thanks for your efforts!

Giving Tree Homeroom/Advisory Contest

I am happy to announce that Ms. McCormack’s 2nd Grade and the Wang/Merrylees Advisory won their respective divisions for the Giving Tree Homeroom/Advisory Contest. However, the kind of charitable spirit displayed by the entire NIS community showed that we are all winners in this activity. On behalf of the Pfrang Association, I would like to thank everyone here at Nanjing International School for taking part making our Giving Tree card drive such a success.
