NIS Academic Awards, Service and CAS

I am going through the Academic award lists and I notice that some students have put Service / CAS activities in managebac but have not written any journal entries. Please note, no activities and no journal entries (that focus on the selected outcomes) unfortunately means no Academic award so please update your Service / CAS journal today. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and queries.

Ghent University Global Campus Visits NIS

Hello Grade 9-12 students.  Put Friday, January 26th at 1:00 on your calendars.  Admissions representatives from Ghent Universities Global Campus in Korea

will be visiting NIS.  Plan to come to the MSUS/LGR to hear their presentation, get information and ask questions about their programs and campus.

Skateboards Needed

Do you have a skateboard that I could borrow? A group of keen young skaters are in need of a few for the “Failing Forward” workshops on January 22nd and 25th. If you have one that you wouldn’t mind lending out please contact me right away. As a skateboard owner myself I promise to take good care of it while it’s here. Many thanks!

Homework Club

Homework Club will be up and running today and Wednesday from 3:15-4:15 in the Learning Support area (C142). Teachers will be there ready to help with Managbac, homework, studying, projects, and anything else you need to work on.

All students grades 6-12 are invited to attend.

‘Week of Failing Forwards’ Workshops

“If you’ve never failed, you’ve never tried anything new.” -Einstein

The ‘Failing Forwards’ workshops, for all Grade 2 to 10 students, take place on Monday and Thursday next week from 10:40-11:45. We hope they will be a fun and character-building opportunity for you to try something you have never tried before, alongside people you don’t usually work with.

You can browse the workshops on Veracross from 10 am today (Monday). Sign-ups will open up at 1pm on Wednesday 17th. Sign-ups close at 3pm on Friday 19th; those not signing up by then will be assigned workshops for the two blocks, as available.

Push yourself out of your comfort zone; you may be surprised what you can do.

MS/US Report Card Proofing Today!

Hello MS/US Editors,

Today (like right now!) have the chance to proofread your report cards in a slightly extended Advisory session until 8:25am.

Things to look for:

Are all of your classes are accounted for?

Are there any errors in the comments (your passport name should be used)?

Any missing comments or ATLs?

Does the sum of your criteria scores match these grade boundaries for each class?

If there are any errors or omissions, please email the teacher and copy (cc) Mr. Bratton for Grades 6-9 or Dr. Saavedra for Grades 10-12 before the end of Advisory today.

Also, at this point you might feel like begging a teacher for “one more point” to bump up a grade… Don’t do it! This is called “Grade Grubbing” and it’s not cool! If you have a question about your learning, ask it. But, if the Grade-Grubbing detector goes off, teachers have strict instruction to send you to us for intensive guided reflection.

Thanks and get to it!

Mr. Bratton and Dr. Saavedra
