Helping Non Native Students Understand What You Say 3
Activate existing knowledge of the topic (by asking questions and making connections with existing knowledge, discussing opinions, making predictions etc.) and by pre-teaching key words. It is also helpful if students are told what they will have to do after they have finished listening so they can focus on the forthcoming task.

ASA Cycle 3 Signup
The sign up for cycle 3 will start next Monday according to the following schedule:
Monday March 16th, 1.00pm: K2-G12 students can signup for one ASA.
Tuesday March 17th, 1.00pm: G3-12 students can sign up for a second ASA.
Wednesday March 18th, 1.00pm: G6-12 students can signup for a third ASA.
ASA Cycle 3 starts Monday March 30th.
CISSA & NUX Basketball – sign ups are open
The CISSA and NUX basketball season is nearly upon us. Sign ups are now open on Veracross. Open to all Gr5 – 8 boys and girls of all levels of experience and ability. Practices start next week:
Jr (Gr5-6) boys & girls: Mon 4.15 – 5.30pm and Wed 3.15 – 4.15pm
Sr (Gr7-8) Boys & Girls: Tue & Thu 4.15pm – 5.30pm

Helping Non Native Students Understand What You Say 2:
Try not to use idioms and colloquial expressions. Non native students often translate these expressions literally. For example, a teacher might say “Take a stab at it,” to encourage a student; the non native students could be very confused. Which idioms/colloquial expressions do you use in class?

Book week is next week! (March 16th-20th) and we would like your help with a few things:
- Bell songs – Maximum 15 seconds of you reading a poem, a quote, or some piece of literature.
- Shelfies – Bookshelf + Selfie = Shelfie
- Spine Poetry – Stack up books to create a poem or short story
