G6-8 Inter-house football next Thursday

If you can remember the good old days when jumpers were used for goalposts and a wet football broke your foot, then you’re probably too old to take part in next week’s inter-house competition. If you are in G6-8 however, then this could be your chance to delight others with your exquisite passing and mesmerising dribbling.

Interested Grade 6-8 footballers should contact their house captains / leaders asap to sign up. G9-12 players will play in Semester Two.

Teams of 7-10 players (only 7 on at a time).

One girls team and one boys team per house.

Interhouse Chess – an incredibly close contest!!

The Interhouse chess took place yesterday and it went right to the wire!! Ultimately only one point divided all 3 houses with Wutaishan just winning it by half a point over Taiping with Xuanwu a further half point behind. Well done to all players, the standard of play was very high in the very tense speed chess format. This means that Wutaishan stretch their lead to 50 points as we approach the PYP Dance competition this week and the music knowledge competition in Week 13. The current running scores are below:

Language Acquisition

Look out for culturally unique vocabulary.

For most ELL/English B students, their background knowledge is lacking, especially with things that are unique to some/most English speaking cultures. It’s important to directly teach these vocabulary words: Show them videos or pictures of things that are not common in their own language.

MYP/DP Assembly

It’s the big one. Bigger than advisory snakes and ladders. Bigger than staff vs student Cludo. Bigger even than PYP vs DP Hungry Hippos. Yes, inter-house chess is back!

All players and spectators should make their way to D219 (G9-12) & D220 (G6-8) at the start of lunch. Players – please make sure you have downloaded a chess timer.

Language Acquisition

Try to avoid  questions that assume a cultural knowledge that the ELL/English B students are unlikely to have. A mathematics question about the batting average of a baseball player may cause unnecessary difficulties to a student who has never seen the game played and knows nothing about its rules.

Wednesday: Green Team Vegetable Sale

The PYP/MYP green team will be having our first garden sale of the year.  It is a small one but a good one!

We will have packages of fresh organic veggies grown by our PYP and MYP students for sale in the Center Foyer at 4:00 PM on Wednesday.  Don’t miss it!

Plastic Water Bottles

Hi Everyone!

I’m Sonja and I am collecting water bottles for my DP art project in which I’m going to build a lamp.

If you have empty water bottles and you don’t know what to do with them, you would help me a lot if you could bring them to the Design Centre and leave them in the big blue bag that is on one of the tables in the art area.

Thanks water bottles
