SCISAC Volleyball starts next week

As the SCISAC Soccer comes to an end this weekend with the tournament here at NIS, we replace it immediately with SCISAC Volleyball. This is for Gr8-9 students (Age 13 or 14 on 1 Sep 2015) and practices will be on Mondays and Wednesdays 3.15 – 4.15 for the girls and Tuesdays and Thursdays 4.20 – 5.50pm for the boys. The tournament will be in Xiamen on 25 – 28 Feb. Sign up now on Veracross and come to the gym on Monday(girls) and Tuesday (boys).

Language Acquisition

Mathematics has been called the universal language, it allows existing knowledge to activated as a lead into the teaching of new skills and concepts, however, there is a potential disadvantage. It can lead to high levels of frustration when students find that their lack of English interferes with their ability to do maths that they would otherwise find easy. They go from high achievers in the subject in their own language to strugglers in the maths class at NIS. This can be a blow to their self-confidence and self-esteem.

Music Comedy Group

Miss Keus is putting together a musical comedy group. This group will perform two pieces:

1. Boomwhackers

2. Silent Monks

Now, there’s a huge amount of interest in this comedy group, but we can only accept 15 people. Therefore, we are going to go by who can make the rehearsal times (since our first gig is in December) . The only day I have free is Thursday 3:15 – 4:15.

If you are interested in being in this musical comedy group, please email Miss Keus… but please only apply if you know you will be available on Thursdays after school.

Language Acquisition

Introduce students to the elements of their textbooks and how they can be used: Contents page, Index, Headings and subheadings, Vocabulary lists, Bold print (key vocabulary in context), Captions, Side bars, Maps, Graphs (Circle, pie, bar, picto-gram, etc.), Pictures, Bullet points,  etc.

Show students examples of these elements and talk about their function.

About Security

This is kind reminder from the NIS Community member about security alertness.

Dear All, just heard and knew there were several broken in last weekend in RFG. The thieves went in from open windows of bathroom or balcony sliding door.
Please be sure that all windows and doors are locked when you are not home or sleep at night. If you have broken windows or doors, please inform owners and management office to repair. For windows and doors better to have addition protection but the simple one maybe to one side of door fixed and use the stick to against.
