May 31st. The ultimate battle-of-the-bands. Who will win the title of “King / Queen of the Disco?” So far, Xuanwu seems to be first in the running, with a dream team of musicians. Can Wutaishan and Taiping come up with something creative to wow the judges? The music room will be open during breaks, lunches, and after school for any team that wants to practice. It will even be open on Tuesday’s holiday (please check for available times). Come see which house team will dominant this year’s Interhouse Battle-of-the-Bands!

It is great that so many students are playing out on the fields. There are a number of balls (football, rugby, basketball) that you can play with. To help everyone to find the ball of their choice (and to stop balls being left in the far flung corners of the school), please put the ball back into the basket when you have finished with it. Your friends and other students will appreciate your thoughtfulness!
Grade 11, As one door closes (exams…) another opens (Extended Essay…!). You have just over a week to finish up those first drafts and submit to your Supervisors. Remember that we are looking for quality drafts for your Semester Grades. I am attaching the Semester Grade criteria for your information.
Dear All,
Please welcome Anis to school this week as he begins a 4 week spell of observation and small group teaching in Middle School and Upper School Science classes and in several Primary School classes. Anis is a student teacher at Strathclyde University.
Reminding students and/or others, “That is inappropriate language, and that is not who we are” helps to hold a person accountable. F.E. Aboud makes note that, “If name calling or other discrimination happens at school and goes either unnoticed or is not discussed by adults, students infer that the behavior is widely accepted.”
After three immensely popular and hugely successful productions, Accidental Theatre is back! This year’s treat is the hilarious Oscar Wilde comedy The Importance of Being Earnest. Set over three acts, the tale follows two bachelors who create alter egos to escape their tiresome lives. The pair struggle to keep up with their own stories and become entangled in disguise, deception and misadventure!
This play is suitable for Grade 6 and above. Running time a little over 2 hours.
Tickets available from reception. Limited seating. Get them while you can!
All of our TEDxYouth@NIS talks are now posted here. Latest additions are Frank’s “A good face for radio” and Hibah’s “Clearing misconceptions” — a moving spoken word performance.
Our next event is in March 2018. Speak to Ms. Tryona or Mr. Mello if you have an idea worth spreading or would like to join the organizing team (teachers and students).
Stay tuned!

Good Morning,
Tired of wondering if the Red Trolley is free? Can’t find the clipboard because it is away with the Orange Trolley? We have tried to facilitate an easier way of accessing the PYP laptop carts by digitizing the booking of them. You can now add their schedules to your calendar in a way that will let you both check their availability and book them if they are free. Please click on the link below that relates to which calendar you use on your computer:
Please don’t hesitate to contact us for further support if needed. We hope to use this as a prototype for replacing other clipboard-bookable spaces in the future and soliciting feedback at the end of the year.
Thanks,
Joe and the IT Team
