The Student Council Voice and Choice Committee heard you!

In week 22, the 2nd floor cafeteria during Lunch 1 will be open to grade 9 students to play games and to hang out.

In order for this to happen, student volunteers are needed. You must be in G10 or above, commit to 30 minutes of supervision, once every cycle for 7 weeks.

Two students are needed for each day. Volunteers will monitor the space, the non-violent computer games, the noise level etc. Sign up on Veracross now.

Action: Actively supervise the 2nd floor Cafeteria during Lunch 1

Benefit: Provides a space where G9 students can have 30 minutes to play games and hang out.

Posting Content on Campus TV Screens

Good morning,

Some of you may be wondering about how to get content from your classes, ASAs, etc onto the screens around the school. Here is a reminder about how to do that.

First, as they are horizontal screens, we would like to ask that any content you do submit, that you follow these protocols:

  • For all media submissions, please ensure that they maximize the horizontal perspective that the screens provide (i.e. landscape layout)
  • If you are submitting a single document (i.e. flyer) please make sure to make the text as large as possible (again using landscape layout) and high-resolution images (200dpi/A3 format would help ensure the size and pictures look correct)
  • Keep videos to 1GB or less
  • Remove audio from any video for the screens
  • If you are unsure about how to make a slideshow, you can just put all the pictures in a folder and put your request to make a slideshow in your email
  1. Save the content (as described above) in a folder on the Large File Storage server (either Student or Teacher, doesn’t matter as long as you follow Step #2)
  2. Send the link/folder location to it-help@nanjing-school.com
  3. Please put an appropriate subject heading (like Student Council poster, Swimming Gala, etc.) on the email in Step #2
  4. Please also include the duration that you would like your media to run (i.e. 1 week, 2 days, etc., keeping in mind that 2 weeks is maximum duration)

And don’t hesitate to ask us for help as well, if you have an idea but you’re not quite sure how to make it happen. But please give us at least 24 hours (1 full day) notice.

MS/US Student Council Update

Hi, we are the Student Council Voice and Choice committee. Throughout this semester, we have been working on the issue of lunch pricing and quality. After doing a survey on school lunch, we brought these results to Chartwells.

From the whole MS/US survey, we collected 97 responses in total. In general, people were satisfied with the quality, quantity, and the variety of food. We also discussed areas with negative feedback with Chartwells, particularly on pricing of lunch.

From now on:

  • The entire weekly lunch menus will be in the daily bulletin
  • Microwave will be located in the upstairs cafe
  • MYP/DP students can ask for more/less food if needed
  • Surveys and discussion regarding lunch menus will be continued each semester

We welcome any further suggestions for improvement to school lunch. Please feel free to contact any member of Student Council or our supervisors Ms. Chen and Ms. Beck.

X-Block Today

  • New students please go to the Music Room to learn about X-block and the choices available to you.
  • The Music Room is now open as an X-Block Space. Please talk to your current mentor and then come to Mrs Merrylees if you are interested in changing to a music project or working in the music room. Please bring your own instruments unless you have specific written permission from Ms Keus to borrow.
  • There is a tiny chance that baking and vegetarian cooking may be allowed to return in small groups. Please email Mrs Merrylees if you are interested in doing a short cooking project of 4-5 X-Block sessions (I lesson planning, preparing and researching, 3-4 lessons in the kitchen)
