Global Citizenship Certificate… for Adults!

ISS is offering a new Inspire Citizens Global Citizen Certificate program for educators. It has great reviews and is regarded as a solid credential and great opportunity to meet like-minded educators and build your network within this important area.

  • There are 3 separate courses and the first one starts this Saturday (there’s still time to register).
  • You don’t have to take all three courses. They can be taken separately and in any order.
  • It’s about 4 hours per week of work (asynchronous) and there are optional opportunities for live engagement via Zoom.

The cost of the full certificate is $1350 USD and is PLA eligible. If keen, please see Kasson soon. Thanks!

Skateboard Volunteer Opportunity

Ms. Moen needs two student volunteers from Grades 8-11 to help with a primary Skateboarding and Roller Blading activity after school on Thursdays from 3:00 – 4:15. You do not need to have any experience roller blading or skateboarding. You will help the primary school students to put on their roller blades and safety gear and assist the beginners as they learn to skate. This volunteering will last for 3 weeks from Sept. 21 – Oct. 19. Contact Ms. Moen via email: cherylmoen@nanjing-school.com or her classroom, D242.

Secondary MAP Testing Wrap-Up Friday

Secondary students in need of MAP testing wrap-up should head to the MAIN BUILDING LGR on Friday at 2:00pm. These students have received an email from Mr. Bratton as well. See you then!

Accreditation Reports and Actions

Please find our 2022-2023 self study report linked here along with a summary of the planned actions from that report. The self-study and evidence submitted by our committees last June will greatly inform the lines of inquiry our 13 peer evaluators will take during the upcoming October accreditation visit (October 7-13).

Please take a look and be reminded of our collective, reflective efforts and marvel at the efforts already underway on behalf of our students. More detail can always be found in the Accreditation folder on the digital hub. Please see Kasson with any questions or feedback. Thanks to all!

Tech Tip 8:   More Handy Keyboard Shortcuts on your MAC

Todays Tech Tip is a list of some more helpful keyboard shortcuts to help save time.  Most of these shortcuts rely on you pressing a combination of keys together, and most of the time you will be starting by pressing and holding the Command Key (or Cmd) ⌘ followed by another key, then letting both of them go.

Zooming in and out on your browser

(to make something easier for students to see on the projector)

  • Command + sign: Zooms in
  • Command – sign: Zooms out

Copying / Moving a file

(eg Copying or Moving from Downloads to your OneDrive)

  • Command key while dragging the file: Move the dragged item to the other volume, instead of copying it.
  • Option key while dragging the file: Copy the dragged item. Note that your cursor changes while you drag the item.

Screenshots, Screen Snips and screen recording

(This is a good one if you want your students to be recording or capturing something from their screen)

  • Shift Command 3: Whole Screen screen-shot
  • Shift Command 4: Brings up a cursor allowing you to select a section of the screen to take a screen snip
  • Shift Command 5: Opens a tool bar allowing you to take a screen shot, screen snip or make a screen recording.

OK, they were the ones I use every day.  Now for a few less common but equally useful ones.

  • Command-Tab: Bring up a tab that you can use to select from the most commonly used programs.  This is most helpful if you have your Apps maximized and so can’t see your Dock.
  • Command Option ESC: If you see the spinning rainbow of death, this opens the Force Quit window so that you can shut down an Application that has stopped working.

Remember, this tip, along with all previously published Tuesday Tech Tips including a list of other commonly used MAC Shortcuts can be found here.  Tech How To Guides

That’s it for today’s Tech Tip.
