Tech Tip 17: Get AI to help with drafting your Report Comments

Do you want some help with the tedious process of report card comment writing?  Of course you do,  who doesn’t.

This tip is a step-by-step process, including sample prompts, that you can follow to get POE to help with this.

  • Open POE. (Go here if you still haven’t setup POE)
  • Click Explore (top left), then choose either Claude-instant or ChatGPT
  • Copy and paste each of these prompts one at a time, modifying to suit your purposes.
    • My students have been studying the area of [insert Topic], assessed against the International Baccalaureate [PYP/MYP/DP (select one)] [insert Subject Area] Criteria. Are you familiar with this Assessment Criteria?
    • Please give me [insert Quantity] possible positive comments aligned with this Assessment Criteria consistent with a student achievement level of [insert achievement level 1-7] , written from a 3rd person perspective without including any student names.
    • Please give me [insert Quantity] possible comments for ways that students could improve consistent with a student achievement level of [insert achievement level 1-7] , aligned with this Assessment Criteria written from a 3rd person perspective without including any student names.
  • Note: In the first prompt, the more specific you are with your topic, the better the AI generated comments will generally be.

This will give you a bank of possible comments that you can mix and match that are appropriate to your particular needs, ready for tailoring to specific students.  Remember to modify the prompts to suit your class and students, but this will give you a starting point.  Let me know if you need any help with this.

Giving Tree Cards

Parents, if you have purchased a Giving Tree card or still need to purchase one, the Pfrang Association will be selling and collecting upstairs before Wednesday’s PTA Parent Coffee. You can drop off decorated cards and/or purchase some of the last remaining cards before the meeting begins. Thank you for your support during this important annual drive.

Giving Tree Pizza Party Count

Week 2 of the Giving Tree drive is coming to a close and of the 270 Cards available, over 220 have been claimed!! That means we have less than 50 left to sell and the contests for Homeroom/Advisory Pizza Parties are heating up. In the Primary, it’s anyone’s party for the taking as two homerooms, 5A Ms. Bartholomew and EYPreK/K1A Ms. Orteza are tied with 6 cards apiece, but four other Homerooms are just behind them, having bought 4 cards each. In the Secondary, the competition for giving is fierce, as Mr. Burton’s Gr8 Advisory has taken an early lead with 18 cards bought. Not to be counted out is Mr. McHugh’s Gr7 with 16 cards. In 3rd Place at the moment, but still within striking distance, is the ever-dangerous Ms. Chen’s Gr8 lurking and ready to make a late push. With less than 50 cards remaining and two pizza parties at play, don’t wait to get your Giving Tree Cards!
