Last Call for nominations for a G11 student for the EARCOS Global Citizenship Award

This award is presented to a student who embraces the qualities of a global citizen. This student is a proud representative of his/her nation while respectful of the diversity of other nations, has an open mind, is well informed, aware and empathetic, concerned and caring for others encouraging a sense of community and strongly committed to engagement and action to make the world a better place. Finally, this student is able to interact and communicate effectively with people from all walks of life while having a sense of collective responsibility for all who inhabit the globe.

School Spirit Friday Dress

Hello All,

Please see below for clarification from our Personnel Handbook regarding Friday dress. Thanks!

School Spirit Fridays

Staff should choose to either wear the “spirit ensemble” as described below or the expected Monday-Thursday dress.

Spirit Ensemble:

  • Tidy Jeans: dark blue, black, or white; no rips or tears, even if fashionable; not faded
  • House shirt or NIS apparel
  • Clean trainers
  • No t-shirts or hoodies (except NIS house shirts and NIS apparel)
  • No hats to be worn indoors (including NIS apparel) unless permitted for a specific, school-approved occasion (i.e. Student Council sponsored “theme days”, etc.).

NIS Sugar Challenge!

 

Dear NIS

We are three 5th graders working on a project for our PYPX. As a part of our action, we are going to run a Sugar Challenge. This challenge is to stop eating added sugar. The NIS Sugar Challenge will begin on April 15th, 2024. The specific rules of the challenge are as follows,

Students in grades 1-3: (With parent and teacher’s help) try not to eat extra sugar for 2 days.
Students in grades 4-12: Try not to eat extra sugar for 5 days.
Teachers: Try not to eat extra sugar for 5 days.

As a reward, you will get a sugar-free but sweet cookie.

If you’d like to join us, please sign up on the form. For kids in grades 1-3 we ask that teachers help them fill out the form.

Primary Athletics Day Today! (Don’t miss the two main events!)

A reminder that our primary school Athletics Day is today!

Come out and cheer on our athletes as they compete to earn points for their houses.

There are two events in particular that we’d love all the cheering and support we can get:

Speed Relay @ 12.30 to 13.00 (Grade 2 to 5’s fastest runners)

MEGA Relay @ 14.15 to 14.30 (One gigantic event featuring a mix of runners from grades 1 to 5, also including teachers and parents)

(We ask that all non-primary staff and student spectators please stay on the north side of the track)

*A reminder that the track and field will be out of bounds to ALL students during morning recess and lunch break

Grade 8 MAP Maths Today, Grades 9 and 10 Monday!

Hello Grade 8 Mathematicians!

You are on for MAP testing today at 8:40am. Sections A & B will test in the Main LGR between Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. Noh’s offices. Section C will test in Mrs. Bennett’s room (D220).

Please be sure that your NWEA application has been updated. Your advisors can help you with this!

Grade 10 Mathematicians are scheduled for Monday morning at 8:00am in the LGR (all sections).

Grade 9 Mathematicians are on for Monday afternoon from 1:oopm in the Main LGR (all sections).

See you there and then!

Secondary MAP Testing Begins!

It’s that special time of year once again!

Please find the Secondary MAP schedule here.

All testing will be held in the main building this time, so less walking and fewer stairs to climb!

All of Grades 9 & 10 will MAP in the Main LGR (between Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. Noh’s offices).

Grades 6-8 Study Groups A & B will also test in the Main LGR. Sections C will test in classrooms close to the LGR, so please check the schedule above for your daily locations.

MAP is an important chance to demonstrate your academic progress in Reading and Maths. This data is critical to your teachers, families, and you!

Please arrive with a charged laptop and charged brain ready to show what you know!
