Good morning!

We will plan to meet at 2:45pm in the PAC Theatre for an introduction to our new digital reporting system for child protection and more. This meeting should last about 20 minutes. Please bring your laptop. If you would like to get logged in ahead of time, please see Dr. Doak’s instructions in today’s bulletin. Thanks!

Report Proofing

Dear all,

Thank you for entering all your advisory comments for all grades and academic comments for Grade 12. For this cycle, members of the Student Support Teams will be proofreading and correcting different grade level comments. Here is who will be proofing your comments today:

Grade 12: Sara and Angela
Grades 10-11: Stephen
Grades 8-9: Ruben
Grades 6-7: Jade
Kelly, Kim and Tanya will be double checking students on their registers. Angela and Jade will be spot checking ATLs, and I will give a final look over everything.

If any of your grades or comments are not in, please get them in as soon as possible. I know the timeline has been a bit confusing, and I appreciate your patience and flexibility as I learn the system. Reports will be generated by Cindy later this week and published to parents on Monday.

Thank you!

Tech Tip 11: Saving and Sharing files in OneDrive, Teams or Sharepoint (Part 3 of 4)

Today’s Tech Tip is the third in a series where I’ll cover the use of OneDrive, Teams and Sharepoint to save and share files you’re working on.  In this tip I am going to cover saving and sharing files using Teams.  Remember, Teams is best used for files that you are working on collaboratively with a group of people.

1. So firstly, to open Teams, you can use either the locally installed App on your laptop, or open the Web App from the waffle menu found here.  https://nanjingschool.sharepoint.com/sites/NISHub

Either option is fine, and unlike OneDrive they look and function almost identically.

2. Next you need to select which Team you want to collaborate with.  You do this by;

  • Clicking on Teams on the left-hand side menu.
  • Select the appropriate Team. For most it will be either Primary School or Secondary School
  • Then select the appropriate Channel. For most this will either a Grade level or Subject area

The great thing about Teams is that once you upload a file into a particular “team” or “channel” that you are a member of, it is automatically shared with all other members of that team.

3. Finally, to upload a file;

  • Make sure you are in the correct Team and Channel
  • Click on Files in the top menu, found up between Posts and Notes.
  • Click Upload, then click Files (or you can upload a whole folder by clicking folder)
  • Locate the file you want to upload
  • Click Open (blue button in the bottom right)

That file is now ready for others in your team to collaborate on, and any changes made to the document will be automatically saved.

Just finishing with an interesting note: To upload a file notice that you DON’T click on Files found below Teams and Calls in the left-hand side menu.  Doing this is actually another method you can use to upload a file to your OneDrive.

That’s it for today’s Tech Tip.  Next week I’ll continue with this series and give some tips on the use of saving and sharing files from Sharepoint specifically.

That’s it for today’s Tech Tip.

Tech Tip 10: Saving and Sharing files in OneDrive, Teams or Sharepoint (Part 2 of 4)

Today’s Tech Tip the second in a series where I’ll cover the use of OneDrive, Teams and Sharepoint to save and share files you’re working on.  In this tip I am going to cover saving and sharing files from OneDrive.  Remember, OneDrive is best used for files that you are working on individually or with maybe one or two other people at maximum.

So firstly, to easily save files you are working on directly to a folder in OneDrive, make sure you’ve added a link to OneDrive in your Finder using the following steps.

  • Open Finder and click the “Finder” menu at the top of the screen, then click Settings
  • In the Finder Settings window, select the “Sidebar” tab from the top
  • Check the box next to “Cloud Storage” to add it to the Finder sidebar.
  • Close the setting window

Now when you save a file, you can select Onedrive as a location from the left-hand side of the save window, rather than needing to click “Online Locations” and navigate to OneDrive. The beauty of saving a file to Onedrive is that it will continue to automatically save whilst you’re working on it once you have saved it the first time.

So if you can get your students into the habit of saving their work to Onedrive it can help to prevent them losing their work.

Secondly, when it comes to sharing a file from OneDrive, I would recommend opening the Web based version of OneDrive using the waffle menu from this link that posted last week. https://nanjingschool.sharepoint.com/sites/NISHub

This is because you get a lot more options available.  For example, under Home you can see files from OneDrive that you have been working on recently, under Shared you can see files you have shared, or that others have shared with you and under My Files you can see all of your files and folders. This is also where you can easily share a file or folder with others.

To share a file for others to work on collaboratively,

  • Select the file or folder, then.
  • Either click on Share (found in the menu above), or click on the three dots, then select Share
  • In the Share dialogue box, start typing email address of the person you want to share it with. Select them from the names shown.
  • The MOST important step if you want to allow others to edit the file, click the drop down arrow and change it from Can View, to Can Edit.
  • Add a message to describe to the recipient why you’ve shared this file with them.
  • Click Send to send the link via email, or click “Copy Link” if you want to link to this shared file from another document or presentation

That’s it for today’s Tech Tip.  Next week we’ll continue with this series and I’ll give some tips on the use of saving and sharing files from Teams specifically.

Updated NIS Branding

Dear all,

This is the last week of our 30th anniversary year of celebration. Along with the end of the 30th anniversary, we will be phasing out the 30th branding with refreshed NIS branding that follows our website style. New digital stationery (letterhead, PPT, etc.) along with updated logos, e-signatures, and Brand & Style guide are now available in our NIS Digital HUB in SharePoint: https://www.nischina.org/brand.
What does this mean for you?
Starting this week, please use the updated brand materials in the brand folder.
By October 14
-The 30th anniversary NIS logo is no longer to be used in new communications
-The updated NIS logos in the brand folder are to be used going forward
Starting now and by the end of Semester 2
-All staff email signatures will need to be updated. Please update yours regardless of the kind you currently have with one in the brand folder. We hope to have 100% implementation of the new e-signatures by the start of semester 2. Please see IT for help with updating your e-signature. Thank you for your understanding and support in this.
If you have any questions about NIS branding, please consult the Brand & Style guide in the Brand folder, or send me an email.
Many thanks!
