Music Evening Performers

The Music Evening is May 9th!

Every year, we have really great small ensembles, rock bands, and soloists performing in the music evening. These are music students who are highly enthusiastic and who would like to put together their own performance, outside of music clubs.

If you are interested in performing, please contact Miss Keus (amykeus@nanjing-school.com) by May 28th. Of course, sooner is better).

Happy practicing!

Miss Keus

Absent? A few clarifications

Dear Colleagues, we have been experiencing some confusion with the ‘Absence categories’ for staff. This can lead to misunderstandings with regards to staff attendance records. Please note the following clarifications. More guidance is on the Absence Request Form:

School Business (SB); if you are absent on behalf of NIS

Professional Leave (PFL): if you are absent on behalf of another organisation (eg Workshop leader, accreditation visit, presenting at a conference)

Professional Leave (PFL): if you are absent for personal professional reasons (eg Interviews, job fairs)

Professional Development (PD): Attending a course, workshop or conference (eg IB Workshop, ACAMIS workshops, EARCOS)

Personal Leave (PL): Must be approved by Arden (eg Embassy visits, meeting family at the airport)

Next Year’s Discover China Trip Selection G5-10

At 12.30pm today (Tuesday) the Discover China Trip selections will open for G5-10 students to select the trip they would like to go on next year. All current G5-10 students should select one trip only. All students should make a selection unless you are certain you will not be at NIS next year.

Calendar 2017/18

The calendar for next school year is now open for staff to input their dates. It is located in Reception in the Library Foyer. Please note that the calendar will be scrutinised before the dates get fixed. In order to ensure a smooth process, use the whiteboard markers and do not erase or ‘score out’ events written by someone else.  Deadline for entering dates is Monday April 24th.

Marina Away

I will be away all day today, Monday, on the Pfrang Trip. Please see Ruth Clarke with any issues that need support. Thanks.

Beware of Microsoft Attachments from strangers (and friends)

Attention:

A few days ago Microsoft disclosed a flaw in their Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) that allowed hackers to embed a malware program known as a “trojan horse” providing them access to sensitive security information. Please read more about this here. In the meantime, steps you can take to protect yourself are to run the Microsoft Office update to get the “patch” for this flaw, and to only click on Microsoft (Word, Excel, etc.) attachments from people you know and are expecting. If you are unsure, check with the sender. Microsoft had promised an update 11 April 2017 but as of yet it has not reached China…so please keep checking. Thank you.

Music Important Dates!

The Music Evening is coming up on May 9th. It’s our biggest night of the year! We will be doing a huge push to prepare for it, and just want to remind you about some important calendared dates:

May 5th – 6th – Music Sleepover

Workshops – yummy treats – games!  Have fun, and then the next day, go to the PTA Spring Fun Day!

May 8th – Music Tech Rehearsal

Please make sure you speak with any activity leaders who might be affected by this. Sometimes we try to put performers first so that they can get out quickly to their other commitments.

May 9th – Music Evening

Come and be amazed!  Music students wishing to perform individual / ensemble pieces, please see Miss Keus, Mrs. Dean or Paul Meyer.
