First Day: New to NIS Students only

7:30 – 8:00 Go directly to classroom
8:00 – 9:30 Students in classrooms

  • Introductions
  • Meet same grade level students and teachers
  • Ice breakers
  • Tours
  • Playground
  • And more!

9:30 – Picked up in homeroom by parents

Note:
Keep last year’s rules/class agreements up for two or three weeks until your new class creates their own agreements.

Day 1- First day for all students (see pp 16-25 in The First Six Weeks)
No Pullout Specials – Specialist teachers will integrate into the classroom
No swimming

  • 7:45 – Teachers greet and interact with students
    Students decorate locker name tags (multiple languages – value home language)
  • Home lunch/School lunch
  • New students get a language buddy
  • Stop signals taught (e.g. Chimes, claps, hand in the air) – Stop, get quiet, and look
  • Morning meeting – Greeting
  • Interactive modelling – Lining up, hallway walking, bathroom procedures
  • Between 9:00-9:45 – Healthy snack in class
  • Energizers
  • Speak with Aterlierista about organizing playground activities for break times
  • Tour the playground  – talk about playground essential agreements and interactively model
  • BREAK – Interactive model exit, entry and clean up (Ensure buddies stay together)
  • Go early to the cafeteria (K2) and PYP LGR (PreK -K1) (RC Pg19) for lunch
  • Bus ayis pick up students who ride the bus at classroom
  • Pre K students home at 10:00 (soft transition end of day)
  • K1 and K2 outside for play time
  • Quiet time (RC Pg 19)
  • Take class picture and send home a first-day digital newsletter (include swimming  times)
  • Teach dismissal procedure
  • Closing circle
  • Bus TAs take students who ride the bus out PYP LGR to courtyard to line up

Day 2
No Swimming
(all other Specials start today)
